I just got my first TiVo (Series 2 180hr) this week and have been playing around with it a lot.
I'm a little confused about exactly how the dual-tuner thing works. I know I can use the "Live TV" button to switch between the live display currently being broadcast on each of the two tuners, but what does that little black "DVR 1 -- DVR 2" switch do, exactly?

That allows you to control more than one TiVo with the same remote. If you have two, you can assign each one a different remote code and use that switch to control each different TiVo.
Enjoy!!

You can also use the DVR switch to "lock" your remote. In other words, if you only have one tivo and a dog (or kids), you can set dvr "2" to another address as described below. When set to DVR 2, the remote won't work. Just remember you did it so you don't think something's broken.
Going into System Info, my remote address was set to "0". With that page up on my TV,
1. I set the switch on my remote to DVR 1,
2. cover the remote with my hand,
3. press and hold Tivo and Pause button at the same time until the red light came on and held steady
4. point remote toward Tivo and press 1
5. press right arrow - at this point, I see the remote address on my system info changes to "1"
Next,
6. Flip DVR swtich to "2"
7. Repeat steps 2. and 3. above
8. **Still holding my hand over the remote**, I pressed 2
9. Hit right arrow
Success! My remote does not work when set to DVR 2, i.e., it's locked.
