I am trying to watch live TV using my series 2 Tivo that I have been using with no problems for the last 3 years or so, and all I get is a black screen. It recorded a show at 4:00 this afternoon and now recordings kick off but don't display either. I have checked all cables and I know my comcast box is working (the first thing I checked because Comcast is generally goofed up) because I bypassed the TIVO and get all channels.
The Tivo seems to be getting a signal because when I unplug the cable input it tells me it is getting no signal. When I plug it back in the screen simply goes black.
I can still watch recorded shows.
HELP! My wife wants to know why I have been able to fix all other problems with our AV system but I can't fix this one. She is getting pissed.

Sounds like time for a new TiVo!

Same thing happened to us. A half hour with TIVO live help and we were back in business. Steps I took:
1. unplug the power source to both your TIVO and your cable box. Let sit 30 sec. and replug. I think this resets them.
2. trace your red, yellow, white cables and replug them, makes sure they are secure
3. Power up tv and tivo, it will take a few minutes for tivo to reprogram (or whatever it does, LOL)
This is all I really needed to do. It was determined that my cables could probably be replaced as everytime I move them there is some interference or I lose my picture.
So no TIVO replacement and were back in business. Good luck.

I have tried using both sets of inputs (R-6 Coax and the red-white-yellow) and that didn't help. I have also tried rebooting my Tivo. I have not tried live help as of yet.
Anyone else thinking I need a new Tivo? If I do that would be a real bummer, I have a livetime on this one. I also beefed up the hard drive to 250 meg a couple of years ago. It is a very nice set up that I planned on using a long time on a second TV. (Main TV is HD)

Make sure you don't have any other remote interference. Its happened before when people lost remotes under couch cushions that were constantly sending a button press. Also, try rebooting the TiVo.

Had this happen to me yesterday. 4 shows recorded during the day were blank. Live TV was blank, but the menus and show recorded earlier were fine. I rebooted the Tivo (Humax DRT 800) and everything now seems to be fine.
If anyone else that got this problem in the past is reading is it a sign of trouble in the future or just a one off glitch?

This same thing just happened to me on Saturday night/Sunday morning and it had never happened before (DRT800). I was playing some Guitar Hero and when I turned the game off the screen was black and the buffer wasn't recording anything. I just unplugged the Tivo and plugged it back in and it's been fine since.

My old S1 does something similar once or twice a year. It'll show a few seconds of (perfect) live TV then give the "can't tune the channel" screen. Does it on all channels. A reset thru the menus clears it up.
