My cable company is scheduled to have a major lineup change on Oct. 1. Four new HD channels are being added and several existing ones are being give new channel assignments.
How will the S3 handle this? Will the channels automatically remap on the TiVo? Will I have to do a channel scan?
Thanks for the help! Needless to say, I am a little worried :(

Probably as a combination of how TiVo normally handles it and the cable co sending new mapping data to the cable cards.
TiVo's guide update includes new channels in the lineup, usually accompanied by a "new message" on the DVR saying about the changed to the lineup.
The mapping in the cable card is updateable. One assumes that should it change, the TiVo re-reads it.
Ergo, it needs both to happen for the new channels to work and appear in the guide.

My cable company added TNT-HD, FSN-HD and ESPN2-HD after I installed my S3. The S3 not only automatically mapped the channels, but it left me a message that my channel lineup had changed.
The only problem is that TiVo hasn't upgraded the guide info correctly. TNT-HD guide info is shown on the FSN and the other two just show "Regular Schedule". I used TiVo's incorrect guide listing form on their website and am waiting for the changes to the guide. They claim it is a 5 to 7 business day process. In the meantime, it is impossible to schedule recording for them.

Thanks for the reply! Please post back on when TiVO updates your guide/listings and how long it took! I'm sure that I'll have to do the same thing...

Since TiVo doesn't control the guide data, you are at the mercy of the cable company telling Tribune (source of the guide data) that a change has been made. I worked for a company in the DVR space for a while and I have to say, it is a less than smooth process, especially if the notice of the change is short .
I am quite pleased at how well TiVo's guide data follows the cable lineup changes.
Good luck with your lineup change,
Jeff
