My TiVo Series 2 which I've had maybe four years went black last night. No picture. No sound. No menu access. No lights on front of the console. Nothing.

So I unplugged it, waited 15 seconds and plugged it back in.

I was then able to hear audio of a program that was on TV. But still no picture. No menu access. No "bonk" sound. No nothing. My lights did change, though. The left one was green, the right was red on top (as if it were recording) and yellow on bottom.

I called customer service today and within two minutes and after telling me to make sure my TV was on Channel 3 the woman told me, "We don't make Series 2 boxes anymore. You need to buy a new one." Thanks a lot.

So now I'm coming here. Is there another way for me to reset the box besides unplugging it? Does this sound terminal? Is there a place where I can send my box for repairs?

I have a lifetime membership with this thing and I hate to lose it. Even worse is the thought of turning to Comcast for my DVR. But if this is the best TiVo can do for me that's what I'm going to have to at least consider.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Best guess is bad power supply. Check with weaknees for cost.

You didn't indicate what model you have. Weaknees does have a troubleshooting area. If you have a 140 series, funtoupgrade may be right. I had one die, and replaced it through TiVo before finding out that I could have simply replaced the power supply.

Do you hear the fan or hard drive? If not, then the power supply is more likely.

Not that it's important, but has the Series 2 even been out for four years? Didn't it come out early last year?

I bought my Sony SVR3000 (Series 2) in November 2002.

ok, WOW, I don't know where the hell I was for those three years... I'm not usually that far behind in techonlogy. I got my S1 in Novmeber of 01 and had it for four years thinking there weren't any alternatives... OOPS.

Ok, sorry...not related to the topic, I know...
