For thsoe of use new to TIVO with S3, we (I) prob ably dont' know what some of the acrynoms are. What is MRV, T2G? Since we don't get them, what are we missing?

MRV: Multi Room Viewing. Lets you transfer recorded content from one TiVo to another.

T2G: Also known as TTG, TiVoToGo; lets you transfer recorded content from a TiVo to a PC running the TiVo desktop software.

TTGTCB: TiVoToGoToComeBack (or some such a stupid name); TTG in reverse.

(This must be in an FAQ somewhere...)

MRV: MultiRoom Viewing, allows you to transfer content from one Tivo to another so it can be viewed in a different room from the one you recorded it on.

T2G: Tivo To Go, allows you to transfer content to a computer and ultimately to an IPOD or other portable device to watch it without a television.

Both are current disabled on the S3 because CableLabs hasn't approved the design. This is important because without CableLabs certification of the S3 the cable companies wouldn't obliged to give you cablecards to make it work.

According to Tivo they are working with Cablelabs to try to get them approved and are optimistic. Others in this forum aren't so optimistic..time will tell ;)

TTG doesn't need TiVo Desktop to transfer either way, just to decode the .tivo files. Othere 3rd party apps can handle the trasnfers, such as Galleon, plus you can download from a web browser.

It may be a stupid name, but this is the feature I'm looking forward to most. For those that don't know, it would allow you to acquire a video file (by downloading, or whatever) and then publish it from your PC and play it on your TiVo...

Hey, has anybody else noticed that thier Tivo Desktop software 'sees' their S3? There's definitely communication there. Makes me think if they just let me set "transfers=Yes" on TCO, it would work, though I admit that's gross speculation.

Yeah the first night I ran the Desktop Software v2.3a, and although it showed the Series3 on the list, it just said "Access Denied". You can even connect to the IP of your Series3 in your web browser and you'll get the initial Congratulations message just like the S2s.

Exactly, I couldn't care less about Tivo Desktop... just enable a means to download non-copyrighted recordings via http is all I would need.

It publishes, more or less, what you can get via the network from it.

Compare this (a dump of the beacon packets):tivoconnect=1
swversion=8.0.1a-01-2-648
method=broadcast
identity=648<snip>
machine=blox (FR HD)
platform=tcd/Series2
services=TiVoMediaServer:80/http
To this:tivoconnect=1
swversion=7.3.1-oth-01-2-140
method=broadcast
identity=240<snip>
machine=bjin (MB SD)
platform=tcd/Series2
services=TiVo-ServeTcdVideo-1:2191/tvbus_v3,TiVoMediaServer:80/http
The first one is from the S3. Note it says it's a S2, and doesn't publish its video service.

I was only giving TiVo Desktop as an example.
