View Full Version : Getting more episodes than season pass allows

Since the update a couple months ago, I've noticed that certain Season Pass shows are recording 8 or 9 episodes when the Season pass clearly says "keep at most 5."

Is the Tivo just being "nice" since there is extra room and getting more episodes?

It could be some could be recorde from a separate season pass.

The extra episodes could be picked up by a different season pass (same show different channel), or an autorecording wishlist. Either of those would ignore the original season pass's keep at most (KAM) limit.

Or they might be suggestions. Suggestions don't pay any attention to KAM limits or recording options.

The last thing I can think of is that someone has either:
1) adjust the keep until date, or recording options of some of the episodes. -or-
2) some of the episodes have been moved, using multi room viewing, from another TiVo.
Either of those will cause the affected episodes to no longer be considered part of the season pass, and so they no longer count towards the KAM limit.

I thought so too... I checked.

Only one season pass.
No Wishlists on the box
They are not suggestions (suggestions show up with the funny icon)

A friend at work is having the same issue.

It's happening on both my series 2 single AND series 2 Dual tuner.

For instance. I have a season pass for M.A.S.H. - 5 epsidodes. There are currently 8 recorded episodes in the list. There are several other shows like this as well.

This never happened until the last update.

Also, on the MASH show. I see two epsiodes in the Now playing list that show can be deleted with the ! mark. I look in the To-Do list and there are 4 episodes today scheduled to be recorded.

What gives?

Maybe if you have a lot of room and it won't delete anything by recording it, it does

No, if you have KAM=5, it will only keep five episodes of that SP.

However, if you're in the habit of changing the "Keep Until... " dates, that will cause the tivo to no longer consider it part of the SP. That's most likely the cause at this point.

I haven't touched the keep at most, keep until, or even actually watched any of the episodes lately. When I clear all the epsidodes, the Tivo is back to the >5 saved episodes by the next day.

do you have suggestions on?

if not, is it deleting other shows already on there, or just filling up extra space?

Just filling up extra space, but not showing up as Suggestions (ie the icon)

I really think it's that.

If you tivo was full (your shows + suggestions) i betcha it wouldn't do this.

I guess that's a new undocumented feature then... it's smart enough to be "nice" when it can.

Its possible you manually changed a episode (padding, etc). In this case it will not consider it a season pass recording so it will not count towards the episode count.

Or if you handpicked episodes to record, your Tivo can also disregard the 5 limit. I've had this happen several times. Did you actively pick particular MASH episodes to record?

You know, I have noticed this as well. Sometimes I do change the KAM dates or add extra eps, so at first I assumed that was the cause of the extra episodes appearing. But then I noticed it's been happening pretty frequently, and even for "filler" type of shows that I don't actively monitor or make changes to. The folder just suddenly has 7 or 8 episodes in it, instead of 5, and none of them are marked as suggestions. I have not been able to explain it. I'm glad it's not just me losing my mind! In any case, I have lots of extra room so it's no big deal.

This has happened with me as well. Must be an undocumented feature.

:D
I see the same behavior too, although I'd put money on it being a bug and not an undocumented feature :o

I'll bet it goes away in the future.
