Got my S3 last night, will be hooking it up via component to a Dell 2407 LCD until such a time as I can afford a Plasma (hopefully that won't be too long). The Dell doesn't have HDMI, and it won't take 1080i over DVI, so I have to do component.

So my question is, I know other devices have had their component out restricted to crappy resolutions (like 480i) because of the "analog hole" (I.E big brother can't control what you do with the output)... does the S3 have this restriction?

No, it does not....... I'm betting your other devices are upconverting dvd players.

Why not just set the TiVo to 720p mode and use DVI? The Dell LCD is a 720p TV, so it's simply converting the 1080i picture to 720p anyway. Why not let the TiVo do that for you and use the better connector for the TV?

Uh... no, the monitor is 1920x1200. I've done 720p DVI and 1080i component off my old Motorola HD box, and couldn't really decide which was better, since the monitor's scaling is pretty good, but its handling of component in is pretty mediocre.

Wish the stupid thing could take 1080i over DVI like it really should be able to :P
