What are the pros and cons of adding a second hard drive to a series 2 dual tuner versus replacing the existing one? I ordered a twin breeze from weaknees with the powertrip and fan combo and now I'm reading on here that it is a bad idea. My only reservation is I have a laptop and a USB to IDE dongle to connect the hard drive. What problems will arise from doing it this way with not having a desktop computer to work with? Is the twinbreeze a good thing to have for cooling even if I don't use both drives or is that a load of smoke?

Thanks in advance

The only reason two drives is bad is because you have twice the chance of a drive going bad. That said, ALL but one of my 5 tivo's have dual drives, including both my DRT800's. and have only lost one in 4 years. I also have not had a problem with power supplies either. It's a matter of weighing the extra recording time with the chance losing stored shows to drive failure.

1. Extra noise.
2. Extra heat (more stress on the Hard drives and internal components)

With very inexpensive large capacity IDE drives available, why bother with 2 drives? Do you really need 500 hours of TV programming on a unit?
