I currently have the DirecTv Tivo 10-250 and am switching to the Tivo S-3, which is scheduled to arrive in a couple of days. Will it be possible for me to test the video connection between the S-3 and my projector before I have a cable TV signal? The only signal I have now is satellite and I have no OTA. I'm hoping there will be a "welcome" screen or something from the S-3 without any antenna feed so that I can know the HDMI connection between the S-3 and my projector is good before the cable guys are here for the installation, which will be complicated enough without video connection problems with my projector.

Also, once I disconnect the satellite feed from the 10-250, will I be able to watch what is still stored on the 10-250?

Yes, there is the normal boot-up screen. Some folks have said they can also receive some over-the-air channels without hooking up an antenna. You might be able to get a couple channels to test.

On my old RCA DVR40 from DirecTV, I could still use it once I disconnected from the satellite. You will probably get the typical "Can't Find a Signal" screen whenever you're not watching a show, but you'll be able to access the DVR functions and pick shows to watch.
