View Full Version : Success With S3 And Higher End HDMI Switch?

Anyone successfully use a higher end HDMI/DVI switch with their S3? By higher end I mean a switch by Zektor, Gefen, Key Digital, Dtrovision, etc. It seems that the Monoprice style of switch works fine. From what I hear the Monoprice type switch uses a TI chip that doesn't decode the HDCP signal but just passes it on. The more expensive ones decode the signal so they can fine tune for long cable lengths. Plus some have built in digital audio switching - a big plus for me.

I currently have a Zektor HDVI5 switch (with digital audio switching) that works with my HDCP compliant RPTV and 6412 Comcast cable box and also an HTPC but doesn't work with my S3. After about an hour on the phone with Zektor (Hi Zonn) trying different things and they concluded it probably will never work.

So... I was wondering if anyone has seen anything similar with an HDMI/DVI switch, or if they have a switch that does work with the S3, especially one with digital audio switching.

I've got DVDO iScan VP30. Not sure if a couple thousand $$ makes it high end or not...

In any case, for me, TiVo's Dolby Digital audio eventually (after a couple hours to a couple days) stops, and though the amp (Onkyo 989) reports it's still receiving DD, it's mute.

Unplugging TiVo may or may not restore the DD, but setting the TiVo to DD>PCM makes the amp report Dolby Pro Logic, and that works consistently.

Because of the 3 stages (TiVo/switch/amp) TiVo support disclaims responsibility, though I don't have this issue with any other HDMI equipment.

Not really the answer you're looking for, but there are two HDMI switches I know of that simply pass the signal as is like the Monoprice one but also support digital audio...

The Octava is a 4 port HDMI switch

The Video Storm is a 6 port mix of HDMI and regular DVI

Both are less then $300, and both include a built in amplifier for improving picture quality over long runs.
