In this thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=318215) forum members discuss the ability to manually record unencrypted QAM digital cable without guide data and
in this thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=4423489#post4423489) I located the unencryptd QAM signals that I should be able to record off the digital tier of my Rogers cable line up.

In this thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=4394227&&#post4394227) megazone was informed that digital HD OTA guide data isn't available for Canada yet.

I'm wondering, can the S3 record digital HD OTA in a manual mode? The S3 should be able to tune digital ATSC OTA channels even if it doesn't know what they are? If TiVo can record unencrypted QAM in manual mode it should be able to do the same for ATSC OTA should it not?

Does anyone know if it can? If so, this will greatly extend the usability of my newly ordered S3 in Canada.

Hi Dajad,

I just setup my new s3 last night with an indoor antenna and basic cable. (CableCards coming Saturday morning hopefully.) I'm in the SanFrancisco Bay area, and this is my first OTA tuner, so I was amazed at the amount and quality of digital signals I'm getting. Anyway, most of the channels I find with a scan are known and expected by the Tivo guide data, but many of the QAM cable stations and even a few ATSC OTA antenna stations come up with asterisks next to their names. This means a channel was found, but no data exists. (And they are deselected by default in the channel-setup area.)

So yes, it seems that unknown antenna-connected ATSC digital stations will still show up as selectable channels, and presumably would then be recordable manually. (Although I'm not in your particular situation, and you should wait for further confirmation if this is what you are basing your purchase decision on... :)
