It is cool to touch and I can't hear any sound, but when I put my hand on the top of the box, I can feel a very gentle hum or vibration.

None of the rest of my boxes do that. They include a Comcast set top box, a Tivo Series 2 DVR, and a Denon High Fi tuner/amplifier.

My series 3 has been plugged in to power for several days (which is filtered and buffered), is initialized and is, as I write this, awaitiing the visit of the Comcast guy with the Cable Cards.

Is this hummiing normal?

Is it kind of like what I mentioned in this thread?

Doesn't seem to be hurting anything, but once in a while I can hear it.

Thanks for your response!

Your vibration seems to be more pronouned than mine but may come from the same or a similar source. Mine does not seem to transmit in any way. It just hummmms.

Mine was humming audibly at various times, and I could definitely feel a vibration-
was wondering, so much for dampening the sound?

But, I realized I had my old SA Tivo sitting on top of it, w/ the feet on the case top (behind the front panel joint meeting the top)... and the front panel was vibrating.

I shifted my old Tivo on top so the feet were closer to the front and the front panel, and the noise is gone.

Do you have something sitting on top of the S3? I think the added weight might mess up the shock-absorption or the case design for the dampening. Try moving (or removing) the item from on top.
