I tried this about 10 times with my series 3 and it still won't work! I've had a Tivo previously and had no problem making the skip work.

Anyone having the same problem?

I'm following the same directions from the Weaknees site that I used with my previous Tivo.

I just had my two cable cards successfully installed after much frustration - it took three appointments to do it and I'm eager to have everything working just the way I want it to.

I had some trouble getting it to work but I don't know why. My wife had no issues. And I did it again last night after a couple of attempts I got it.

One thing to keep in mind is that when watching anything with digital audio you will NOT hear the confirmation sound. So you may want to test it after each attempt just to be sure it's not working.

It works for me, but it resets every time the box reboots, which seems to be happening every 3-4 days for me right now :-p

When setting this make sure you are playing something back recorded and NOT watching live TV.

Watching Live TV doesn't hurt the ability to do this, you just have to make sure to hit the Clear button to cancel the change to channel 30 that is about to occur after doing it. :)

For us TIVO S3 newbies, what is the procedure?

push select-play-select-3-0-select

I had to enter the sequence 5 or 6 times before it took.

Select-Play-Select-3-0-Select while playing back a program.

Select-Play-Select-3-0-Select while playing back a program.

Very important to be playing a recording while doing this - at least on an S1 or S2 and most likely the S3 as well. :)

30-second skip works for me with the S3.

I can get it programmed perfectly once after a reboot. The ONLY way it would program was during a recording. I made it easy for me, I just programmed a macro for it on my remote. If it's not working, one click, that's it.

Well I've tried it probably 15 times now, including trying it while recording a show. I've tried the programming when playing back both SD and HD shows. No luck. I am really stumped. The 30 second skip is very important to me!

Should I try rebooting? I assume rebooting won't affect my cablecard authorization. I thought I read someplace you have to be careful about that. Any other ideas?

NOT while recording, but while playing back an already recorded program. Rebooting is a kind of on and off switch for the skip. Whenever your TiVo reboots, you have to re-enter the code. Be sure you are directly in front of the box so it will get the remote's signal in the clear.

Good luck! :)

The only way it seems to work on our system is if we pause the recording, then hit select-play-select-three-zero-select.

I finally figured out my problem! When I observed the led on the front of Tivo I saw that I was pressing and holding down the select button causing the light to flash twice. Once I realized that and just tapped the button so the LED flashed just once I got the 30 second skip programmed on the first try!

I have found that the only way i can reliably get the 30 skip feature programmed is to follow the steps:

Select, Play, Select, 3 0, Select and do this ONLY when watching a recorded NON-HD recording.

It will not work when watching live TV, and will not work when playing HD content. Playing SD and trying these steps it works every time.

Anyone else have it working on HD? No one covered that in the replies above..

It works on HD just fine. However as I pointed out above it wont make the 3 ding sounds when you enter it while watching an HD recording, so it can be tricky to get working. However once you get it going the 30 second skip functionality works just fine on everything, including HD shows.

Thanks Dan. That's mostly good news anyway. So to get the 3 dings, do it while watching SD, then go to HD. Once per reboot, right?

Unless you don't care about getting the 3 dings. I have all Tivo sounds turned off and getting the 30-second skip to work is not a problem. Then again, I have been a long time S2 user so have had much practice.

Yes. The 30 second skip code does not survive a reboot. So if your TiVo reboots you have to re-enter the code.

Maybe a software update was pushed out, but I just set it while watching an HD recording and it gave me the 3 dings.

Actually HD or SD doesn't matter.

I think it's if the program has 5.1 digital sound then it wont give the dings.

Most HD has 5.1 surround and most SD does not, but i think under some odd instances some cable channels do other things?

(someone feel free to jump in and explain exactly)

MichaelK is right. If it has DD5.1 audio then you will not get the digs. Unless of course you have the DD5.1 to PCM conversion setting enabled. In which case you probably would hear the dings.

basically the problem is that TiVo can mix any of it's sounds with a DD5.1 audio track. That's why you don't get the bedoop sounds when FFing when watching most HD.

Um... Stupid question here... Just wondering, after you activate the 30 second skip, what button do you actually press durring playback to make it skip 30 seconds ahead? I have not had much time to play with my S3 because I'm waiting for cable cards.

The 30-second skip reprograms the skip to end button (or the skip to next tick button as used during FF).

The 30 second skip is a toggle function, meaning, S-P-S-3-0-S turns it on if you do this while watching a something from your Now Playing List. If you do it again, it turns it off. So doing this 15 times will turn it on the same way as doing it once. If you S-P-S-3-0-S twice, you have turned it on and then off. Make sure that you are pointing your remote at the TiVo and make sure that you do not pause too long between pushing the select-play-select-3-0-select buttons. You should hear the 3 dings, but it doesn't always ding. Wait about a minute after doing this and then test it. If it doesn't work, then try it again. Wait and test it.
I also S-P-S-9-S which puts the time and how far into the show timer on the lower right corner of your screen. If I do not see it displayed, then I know that TiVo rebooted and I will need to reprogram the 30 second skip.
