I recently was able to backup an image of my Humax DRT800 dvdrecorder/tivo unit.

It backup succesfully. It restored succesfully to another 80 gig drive.

When I left the jumper as it was it was detected by the computer correctly and when I put it back into the tivo unit I got "powering up" then a minute later a gray screen. I tried this a few times.

When I changed the jumper position, it would not be detected by the computer, it would show the "powering up" screen .. .then that was it.... no evidence of it loading anything further.

SO, has anyone else had an issue backing up this unit and then having the restored image load by your tivo?

If you have not, can I please have your mfstool backup command and also your restore one?

thanks!

Jumper should be on master. What commands are you using?

verbatim I'm using MFSTools 2.0.

when running the restore:

HDA prim master = FAT32 image (tivo.bak)
HDB prim slave (nothing)
HDC sec master = new harddrive image is going to
HDD sec slave = CD rom drive.

I boot from cd then type:
mkdir /mnt/dos
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos
mfstool restore -zi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc

I then get the message it is uncompressing, it does the cleanup, I then type
umount -f -a -r, remove the new tivo drive (HDC) and hook up to the tivo.

If the jumper is on either cable select or master, I get "powering up" with nothing else .... there's another jumper setting where after a minute I get a gray screen.

I've tried a:
Image that was backed up from my own system
InstantCake
mfstools using the .bak I got from instant cake.
to make sure my connections were snug.

All with same outcome...

I've also tried various harddrives, and I own two different drt800's... so I'm doing something wrong!

Its the first time I've restored the image for this machine....all my attempts at restoring any other series 1 or series 2 have been succesful.

Any tips?

thanks

1) I would get the boot CD image from ptvupgrade.com and use that.

2) Use mfsrestore -zpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc

See it this makes any difference. Also, your 80GB drive must be the same size or larger than the drive the image came from. If it is slightly smaller, the image will not fit.

After the umount command are you hitting control-alt-delete to reboot and then turning off the computer when screen goes blank?

I'm doing the umount command and turning off the computer.

The screen that goes gray is the TV with the tivo with this bad image attached to it. (after the powering up part)
