I know I should just try this, but in case there's some non-determination that my testing might not uncover, I thought I'd ask here.

What happens if I set up a Wishlist for something which is on both an HD and non-HD channel. Will the dual-tuner S3 record both? What if there's already something using one of the tuners, will it always use the HD? Random? Error?

Mine seems to want to default to the lower channel number, without taking HD into consideration at all. I.E. 5 NBC over 188 NBCHD but also 186 HBOHD over 550 HBO.

I think it just takes the first one it comes to. The second one gets cancelled. (You should see it as Not recorded in the Recording History because it was already in the to do list).

I think you can take the SD channels out of your listing and that would ensure you wouldn't get the SD recordings anymore.

Why not tell it you don't get the non-HD chan?

I turned off the SD channels in my channel list preferences. This way it has no choice but to record the HD channel.

re:Removing SD channels. I hadn't thought of that. That's a good idea.

That would help a lot, std. networks, espn, etc. I'll try that.

I've also removed the SD equivalent from the list.

One problem is Discovery vs Discovery HD. The content is different, but I was forced to remove the SD Discovery channel anyway.

I really wish we could specify HD only or HD preferred.

Do you remove the channels via the "Settings/Messages" -> "Channels" menu?

And I assume if I remove them, that I can simply add them back? (I'm thinking if I remove stations for which I don't pay (on the upgrade cable package), I'd like to delete them, but I want to be able to easily add them back if we do upgrade). - thanks.

Yes. Channel List is one of the options and you can turn on and turn off which channels you want the TiVo to receive.

And yes you can return them just as easily. They don't disappear from the channel selection set up screen you just uncheck them and it takes them out of the line up. Putting them back in is just a matter of going into the channel list setup and checking them again.

Very cool.

I can see the Alpha software test.

SWEng: And you can remove the channel from the list like this, and it removes it.
Tester: Cool, and if I then call my cable company and subscribe to that channel
SWEng: Sure just put it back, go to the channel list and... um.... We'll have that next version for test real soon now.

There is no way that was caught in alpha testing. It was caught in beta testing becuase in Alpha the tester thought to himself: "If I don't have it why would I want it to show up in the list after I've removed it??"

Yea, you're right. The Alpha test tried the "remove channel", noted that it did, indeed, remove the channel, and checked off that feature. ;)
