Record quality settings on DTivo??

Is there a way to unlock the ability to control the compression like on the standard Tivo units?

There is no MPEG encoder in any DVR marketed by a satellite company. It would be a waste since they use million dollar encoders at the head end instead of a $10 chip in the receiver.

What he said. It directly records the already-compressed data stream from the satellite. When you play it back it looks exactly as it was received. So the quality is always "perfect".

Alas, garbage in = garbage out. So if Directv over compressed the stream to begin with then that's what you'll see.
