I know that when the DVDs came out, Paramount made it pretty clear they were going to count the production order as the official way of numbering the episodes. They also (as part of this) gave both parts of MENAGERIE the same number, 16.
This meant there were still the classic "79 episodes" when THE CAGE was included.
Still, many fans had always counted them according to BROADCAST order, and used that numbering.
Does anyone recall how that numbering was figured?
I'm assuming THE CAGE wasn't included since it didn't finally get aired on TV until Oct. of 1988.
Still, MENAGERIE would have been...
And I don't know if it was numbered as one episode, or two.
With the HD-Remastered version now airing, I've begun recording them again, but wanted to label the discs with both sets of numbers.
For BALANCE OF TERROR, I used p09 and b14 (production and broadcast), but this weekend DEVIL IN THE DARK aired, and either way it comes well after MENAGERIE.
Before labeling the discs, I wanted to see if anyone recalled what the numbering system was on broadcast order. (It all hinges on MENAGERIE taking up one number or two.)
I'm guessing it took up two, which would have left TURNABOUT INTRUDER with its classic designation of #79.
Anyone recall for sure?
Yes, I am a little off the wall on this, but I'm also entirely serious. :p
