Peanut Problems

I noticed this afternoon that our peanut no longer seems to work properly. All the buttons seem to work except two: Select and Tivo (the black button at the top). I'm going to get some fresh batteries, but have to think the problem can't be there since all the other functions work.

Our household has two adults, no kids, carpeted LR floors, and the set was bought this year so it's hard to see how abuse/overuse could be the problem.

Any ideas on what the solution might be, or are we stuck buying another remote?
