OK, relocated to the west coast and still receiving my NYC feed (expect channels 9, 11, 13, 21, etc.).

Need to get the local Directv (it would be a new account).

Would love to have the NYC feed and the West Coast feed in the same room, but not sure how to go about it.

Do I have an installer bring in 4 connects in each room (2 for NYC tivo and 2 for the new WC DVR?).

Also, wondering about the HD receiver, anyone recommend it?

Thanks!

You need to have waivers from the local stations in order to get both east and west coast SD feeds. This may be near impossible now.

Where are you located?

Each DVR will require two sat feeds.

The HDTiVo (HR10-250) can also receive and record OTA stations.

I'm currently getting the NYC feed on the West Coast...

Basically want to get another account and have them install 4 inputs in the living room and 4 in the bedroom, this way each dvr can record and receive, etc.

This would mean 2 DVR's in each room.

Statement is still true - you will need to get waivers in order to keep the NYC feeds while you are on the west coast. Line inputs have nothing to do with which locals you get. It has to do with your account and IF you have waivers. Since you seemed to have just moved it is a "fluke" that you are still getting the NYC feeds. When you get with DTV and update your account info they will surely take the NYC away.

Not a fluke. I'm using paperless billing at my old NYC address and it will not be updated.

Just asking if it is unheard of to have 2 boxes in the same room.

No if you have the jacks to do it and know how to hook them up to your TV (s)

As it stands now there is one jack.

I will be creating another account and at that point have the DTV guy run 4 in the living room and 4 in the bedroom.

Do you really want to pay for a second account just to get the feeds from both coasts?

Absolutely.

Some of what the o.p. is after could be accomplished via subscriptions to the various sports packages, and perhaps it would be competitive to the cost of a second subscription, but it wouldn't include news from the New York area, or other New York centric programming.

I suspect DirecTV, nor their installers, will really care at all about having to put in drops for 2 accounts in the same household. The installers will simply put in the requested drops and those drops will be billed on the new account. DirecTV won't care at all that extra drops were put in.

As far as having the customer continue using equipment on an account that is "homed" to NYC/east coast area out in the west coast location, as long as the equipment doesn't phone home it shouldn't matter at all.

The local broadcasters may not be happy about the customer getting programming from the other coast, but too bad for them.

My issue is how to go about this.

Should I subscribe online? Call a local DTV installer?

You will probably need to set the new account up in a different name. Got a wife? Have her set up your west coast account.

Do not plug your east coast receivers into a phone line.

Other than that, you should be okay.

Not at all. I have 3 DVR's (R-10 and 2 R-15's) in the living room.

I have SIX DVR's in ONE room (my media room in the basement) but they ALL feed ALL my TV's in the house over my cablel TV coax feeds via modulators on different channels. (They are NOT all D-Tivo's, though - I have an older Replay, an DISH 721 & a Motorola 6412 for cable) I use X-10 pyramids to run the remotes in all rooms. :D :D

But, I also have many "normal" clients that have 2 DVR's in the same room as well... :o :)

We recently had Dish installed at work and the installer was telling me that Dish subscribers who had access to local stations would be losing their NY/LA feeds this month due to an FCC ruling and complaints from the locals about losing money on local advertising fees because of the distant feeds. He expected Direct to eventually turn their distant feeds off to anyone who has access to local stations.

We have had the distant feeds since the 90's and kept them when we got local stations, costs about $10 a month, but we like the ability to tivo something on the west coast in case we miss it on the local feed.

Whether what the tech said was true or not who knows?

Directv already does that and they have been for a while, but unfortunately people lie about their address to get the service(which puts the company at risk for a lawsuit, but who cares about other people because yay I have survivor a whole hour earlier). Yeah it's definately nice to have but I have a hard time believing that it is absolutely essential for living.

Is this really true anymore? Many people have VOIP (in my case Vonage), and I have several firends who have moved to other parts of the country, but kept there old phone numbers - one of the very nice features of VOIP - for convenience and to keep in touch with friends.

It seems to me that the days of tracking the physical location of equipment through phone numbers is at an end.

It NEVER was a reliable way to track physical location in the first place - now VOIP just makes it even LESS.

And it really doesn't matter anyway - the ONLY reliable thing that it does do is verify that all receivers on an account are connected to the SAME phone# - it does NOT tell D* ANYTHING WHERE all those same receivers are!

FWIW - I have several clients (& myself, of course) that "moved" years ago to other markets. We all have the phones connected & have never had a single problem doing this. ;) ;) Although, I sure some "expert" will jump in here & claim that D* DOES track the phone# for a valid location comparison to their physical address...

When I lived in Port Jervis (zip 12771) I was in the BFE zone so I got NY feeds as my locals and automatically qualified to get LA feeds for $5 or whatever it cost without having to bother with waivers. I liked having both just for the ability to record shows at another time slot to make managing season passes easier.

Clients? Makes it sound like you're pirating access cards.

This is all crazy.

My only reason is so I can get the YES Network (Yankees), which is not available outside the NYC region.

Simple as that.

Wow, I knew it wouldn't take too long for "an expert" to pop off - and WHAT a brilliant thing to say... :p

EXCUSE ME, but actually I am a legit D* & E* dealer/installer - where did I say ANYTHING, EVEN REMOTELY RESEMBLING PIRATING???

What I said about the phone line "myths", are just that - have NO idea how you inferred THAT into pirating.

I guess if it's your opinion that all my FULL PAYING, LEGIT D* clients/customers (or whatever you want to call them) are "pirates, just because they get their networks from another city, then too bad, so sad - deal with it! D* sure hasn't had any problems cashing all those checks for the past several years, but whatever...

The YES Network is available to everyone who subscribes to the "Sports Pack," not just to those in the NYC area.

But you will NOT get the actual Yankees GAMES outside of the NYC area - actually, you do NOT get ANY professional sports in the SP if ANY of them are outside of your local market. Obviously, THAT is why he "moved" to NY f/YES.

The ONLY other way to get these games would be for him to get MLB EI - but then he's going to be paying WAY more. ;) ;)

lol goodness don't get your panties in a twist. I was joking about the "clients" comment. I never insinuated that your phone line comment made me think you were pirating. But goodness considering your response it makes one wonder ;) .
But I know and fully understand you're not pirating, you're just helping customers commit unlawful acts :). And me an expert? Gee you're so much more of an expert than me.
