Upgrading a two drive GXCEBOT DirecTiVo’s original A drive from a 40G and preserving recordings.

I DD’d the contents of the old Quantum A to a new 300G WD drive. Removed and tested, all was well (recordings worked, now showing had all programs). I then made a backup of the new A and old B before marrying them with:

mfsbackup -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc /dev/hdd

The backup reported successful and I went to marry the new A and old B with

mfsadd –x /dev/hdc /dev/hdd

The add reported 300 hrs of space. I know the kernel can not address more than 137m per drive. I did not want to change the kernel (keep my existing recordings, future DtV upgrades, etc). I had assumed it would ignore the rest of the drive. When I placed the new married drives back in the TiVo, it would load the Cachcard and then GSOD for a second and reboot.

I restored my backup to the new A with

mfsrestore -zpi /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc

The system now boots properly, but only half of the shows are in the now showing and none of them play.

How do I get back to where I was before the marrying of the New A and Old B? Can I just DD the Old A over the New A again?

Is it possible to just use 137G of the 300G on the New A along with my Old B and preserve the recordings or do I have use a new kernel with the large drive?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian
