View Full Version : No UHD today and no guide data either?

I know that DirecTV is playing the Russian Roulette game of pulling HD channels from the HD package so they can show more HD football and make MORE money. But today UHD is gone until 5:00 P.M. and so is ALL the guide data after that. I can't even check or schedule any shows at all. That truly sucks. Bad enough to pull channels so they can resell the bandwidth (and offer no notice or compensation) but to kill the guide data really sucks. Anybody else have the same thing or is this just an issue with my HR10-250?

Well never mind. I just checked again and now the guide data has magically returned.

Hmm..

Guess it was UHD instead of HDNet this week... something must have changed this week.

As for the guide thing... that must be a DTivo thing (the way they process teh guide data).
As the HR20 and H20, both show guide data for the shows at 5pm (EST)

My guide shows data starting at 4:00 Central time with "Watchers" and I have the HR10-250.

Mine says "Programming will return at 5:00pm ET" listed at 5:00am. The next entry is Watchers at 4:00pm

They must have sent the "will return" message and it didn't update the rest of the guide data right away. I must have caught it at the right time.

I called and logged a complaint. Classic answer was "it is only today..." My response is what about last week and next week - no answer. I got a whooping $10 credit for my inconvience. I have never called them before complaining about anything or looking for a credit. I pay $115 a month and have been with them 11 years. I think it's time to take a serious look at cable. Starz, Max are available in HD and I am not a sports fan so I don't care about D*'s lead in that area. Only issue I see with switching is monthly costs of DVR's could make it more expensive after the first year.

Well I have two shows I scheduled before for tonight on UHD. Firefly and Battlestar Galactica and they are still in there but the channel is shown as "missing". I wonder if they will record anyway. If it does screw up the season pass then that is even more reason they should not be doing this. I'm tempted to call again to complain but I'm not sure it is worthwhile. They never even offered any credit the last time even though they sent me a card and said I was a VIP customer. Nice way to treat their VIP's.

Yep, I just checked and the season passes have "NO UPCOMING EPISODES" now!

At least you can set up what TiVo calls "manual season pass." I have that set to record Battlestar at 10pm since there are shows at the normal hour that I want to record, too.

Who cares? This is a TiVo forum.

This pulling channels nonsense is getting ridiculous.

I had to recreate the season pass -- when UHD came back, the old season pass was for UHD instead of 74 UHD and nothing was set to record, presumably because the names didn't match.

Looks like the manual season pass is the only one that will work now. I tried to schedule them for Firefly and BG but when you check for upcoming episodes on UHD it says NONE even though Firefly is in the guide data for UHD on October 1st.

Called to complain, they told me that Sunday ticket customers pay a lot more than I do. I told them that I don't care, they didn't mention random blackouts of channels when i subscribed to the HD Package, and that my cable company has a BETTER package CHEAPER and doesn't do this. He told me their contract states they can do this whenever they want.

Nice attitude they have!!!

Yup, for some reason, Firefly didn't start recording for me at 9 EST, and it said it didn't because it is no longer on the guide data, or something like that.

Lame.

It won't record because the channel name for the SP went from UHD to 74 UHD. Same thing happened to me last week to my Enterprise SP when they messed with HDNET. I also had a wish list for BSG + HDTV. That still works as expected since it's not tied to a specific channel like a regular SP.

Well, luckily I had it on UHD already, so I just hit the record button about 20 minutes into the show when I realized it wasn't recording.

Looks great in HD, btw...

UPDATE: Called retention, got $50 one time credit. Offered me a HR20 for $99, I said no way would I agree to a two year extension...

Hmmm, my HR20 recorded Firefly just fine. Must be something funky in the Tivo program guide when the channel guide data changed.

I'm glad I read this thread. I, of course, had to recreate my SP for Firefly. I knew UHD was being pulled, but I'd forgotten what a FU attitude D* has towards its customers. I'd have been so pissed if I'd discovered tomorrow that I'd missed Firefly's opening two-hour episode.

What's the number for retention? And does a $ credit create a new commitment period?

Who cares? This is a TiVo forum.

This pulling channels nonsense is getting ridiculous.

Umm... Let's see...

1) I was first checking to see if the OP may have been having a guide issue...

2) To see if the UHD data was in the stream, and maybe the TiVo powerd units hadn't re-indexed or loaded that data yet. (Especially since the H20, R15, HR20 present guide data changes faster then the DTiVo units)

3) I no longer have a TiVo powered HD boxed hooked up, so I added that piece of information to CLARRIFY that I wasn't checking it on my HR10

I would expect the same if someone was checking the GUIDE listing from any other reciever OTHER then the "assumed" HR10

It's bad enough that D* thinks they can sell available bandwidth to two customers at the same time......but that horse is being beaten in another thread....they can't do this without messing up the SP's while they play these games.

I called the President's line (888-237-8327) yesterday to express my annoyance. They claim that no one has ever told them that there are SP issues caused by the drop and add routine on Sundays. They did promise to let "engineering" know. Then they launched into the more HD coming in 2007 speach... and followed up by offering me a whopping $5/month off the HD package for 6 months.

If you want to try retention, their number is 800-824-9081, however it seems that unless you're a Sunday Ticket subscriber, FU is all you'll get from D*.

I just noticed last night that my HR10-250 didn't record Firefly on Sunday either. I didn't have a Season Pass set up for it but had just selected the midnight showing out of the guide for recording. I wasn't home all day/night Sunday so I had no way of checking the To Do list prior to the show but I mistakenly assumed that selecting the show would record it despite UHD being shut off during the day. ( I also would have a though a season pass would get it but I only wanted this episode) I called retention and basically got the big tough sh** response. I also reminded them again that the reason I cancelled Sunday Ticket last year was the extra $99 charge for the HD games and the worthless add ons. I have never had a problem with D*'s customer service until now.

I just called the number you listed. Aside from the fact that there was absolutely no hold time, it was a horrible experience.

I laid out the problem....the stations are alternating going off on Sundays, which I don't care a WHOLE lot about, but think is a raw deal since I am paying EXTRA to get them. But that the bigger issue for me is that the season passes get ignored once the channel comes back on. I was put on hold for about 10 minutes while the rep checked with her supervisor. When she came back on the line, she told me that DTV has no record of the season pass issue, haven't had a single call about it. She explained that the outages would continue through the entire football season, and that the terms of service allowed them to do this without providing any credits to customers of the HD package. She went on to say that my season pass issue was actually caused by my receiver getting a software update today (no answer when I asked how that could have effected recordings yesterday). Then I pointed out that my HR10-250 was still running the 3.1f firmware. She actually argued with me. I rebooted the receiver just to make sure, and confirmed again I am still running 3.1f. She continued to argue, finally telling me to wait 72 hours and call back if the problem still exists. I explained that I wouldn't even know until Sunday, when they kill the channel I am paying for again. She told me to call next Monday if it is still a problem, AND THEN HUNG UP.

Funny, how they have had no calls about it but I just went through that same conversation about 30 minutes ago.

BTW I also still have 3.1f running on both machines but it I know it is not a season pass issue because as I stated I didn't have a SP set up for Firefly, just selected it to record and it was skipped.

I had a season pass for BSG, and of course it didn't record. I think I had seen that episode before, anyway. I had also set up a series link on the HR20 for Firefly, which aired right after BSG. Firefly recorded without a hitch. Maybe the guide data is somehow different between the two machines.

In order for them to recognize this as a problem, they'll need to get a LOT of calls. Heck, I recall them denying problems ("this is the first we've heard about it") that many of us were having for almost a full year +/- before it was even acknowledged (IIRC it was the HDMI problem?).

Remember that there are a heckuva lot of CSR's, and a heckuva lot of customers ...so the odds that a memo is gonna be generated on this very quickly seem slim.

I called today to cancel HBO, but mentioned my problem with this. I specifically stated that I didn't want any discounts, just to lodge a complaint.

He talked to his supervisor for 5 minutes, and came back and said it was because of a software update (HA!).

I let him know that he was wrong, and it was widely reported that the channel was taken down.

I checked my recording history last night to see what the reason was for the non recording of Firefly on Sunday night and I saw the dreaded internal error 4 as the reason. This was my first experience with this error code but a search of this forum produced a thread dedicated to it. Apparently others have experienced the same code and are associating it with a bad index or data build for the guide. I suspect in my case it all boils down to the guide being messed up by the on/off of UHD. Not sure about the others who have the error on channels not switched off, hopefully not a serious issue in my machine.

Is there any listing of the HD channels that are being shut off each Sunday? My SP didn't record the 2 hour premiere of Firefly because of this problem, so I want to set up manual SPs as necessary.

Also, can anyone say if the problem with SPs still exists in the 6.3a software?
