So I just got a brand new HR10-250. The box has 3.1.5e running on it. I keep trying to make a daily call to update the software to something later (I'm assuming it'll get 6.2). The call connects, downloads for a long time (at least 30 minutes), but eventually fails. I have VOIP service with CallVantage. I imagine that's the root cause of the failed downloads.

My question is, should I just wait until the 6.3 rollout resumes? From what I've read, 6.3 is being broadcast over the air from the sat, so no lengthy download is involved. The receiver only needs to make an 'authorization' call. Short calls seem to be fine. All the test calls complete successfully. The download attempts only fail after at least 30 minutes.

Is that right? Will this box be able to pull 6.3 from the ether with no modem download? Can a box running 3.1.5e upgrade directly to 6.3 or does it have to step through another version in the middle?

Thanks for the info,
jay

First off, there is no 6.2 available for the HR10-250. 6.3 is the latest and greatest that is slowly being released, and I think it is still halted at this point for some issues. What might be happening during the download is that your box might be trying to upload the "f" version of the 3.1.5 software instead of the "e" version.

You might try putting a DSL filter on your box. I was having problems with my HR10 failing while negotiating for the longest time. I finally put a DSL line filter on and haven't had a single problem since then.
