Check on the "other" forum...
Or quite possibly in the "Tivo Underground" section here, although I haven't seen that information in there myself.

If you have your HR10-250 hacked, and have a network card attached to your usb port, you can also make your calls through your network connection.

Why would I be asking this if my HR10 was hacked?? Of course it's NOT, so I'm asking about making a daily call through PPP NOT my network connection (that I do not have...)
Why would you even make a daily call if your HR10 is hacked...????

Why would people that HACK their tivo have information on making daily calls on unhacked units??? Nobody that HACKS their units wants them to call into tivo...
If you don't know, thats fine, but don't reply! I have searched, and found NOTHING regarding 6.x supporting PPP calls...

I do know but I'm not about to post something here that I'm not allowed to post... You can't make this kind of call without hacking your box and talk of hacking is not allowed in this area.
Has nothing to do with my not wanting to tell you or my not wanting to know. It's called following the rules!
Try the "other" board that allows talk of hacking but don't sit here and gripe because I choose to follow the forum rules!

I don't know. You're the one asking. I have my HR10-250 hacked, and I am also making the daily calls through the network in order to see the promos and showcases.
On the other hand. Hacking your tivo is not that hard. Maybe you should consider that, and then your Tivo would not need to dial out at all.

Is that new with 6.3? Cuz my unhacked HR10-250 makes its daily calls over PPP... I'd like to know if it will CONTINUE after it's upgraded to 6.3...?

I response to "Why would you even make a daily call if your HR10 is hacked...????" I have found two reasons:
Can trigger a download of the 6.3(a) slices
Can download new channel logos
Those can be found in various threads in the Underground forum.

You don't need the box to call in to get showcases or promos. They come on the sat.

If I wanted to hack it I would hack it, and I wouldn't be posting in this forum. I KNOW it isn't hard, I know how to do it, but this is for someone else and I'm not hacking all of my friends DVR's just so they can get 6.3a and make their daily calls....
My question is, can you place PPP Daily calls on an UNHACKED BOX with 6.3 like you could with 3.1.5?

How do you do it with 3.1.5?

,#201 dial prefix.
That doesn't work with 6.3?

For the last time no! And you couldn't make calls over the network with 3.1.5 unless you hacked it either. Neither will make calls via the net without being hacked.

I think you mean #,401 and that only worked in 3.1.5 if you hacked the box. But no, it does not work in 6.3, there is a much easier way in 6.3.

You are wrong, you don't know what you're talking about.
You could make a call using PPP over the Internet using a serial cable with 3.1.5 without hacking anything. I've been doing it for quite some time!
Here are the instructions:

NO, he's talking about ,#211 and it did NOT require a hacked box.

BTW - The tivohelp.com page is quite broken (no images), anyone have a cached version with images?

So is there an answer for the OP of this thread as to whether serial PPP on 6.3(a) works?
StickyC: you shouldn't really need the images, the text tells you exactly what to do. One note though, when creating the new "modem" connection (cable between two computers) make sure you use the non-Windows signed driver (should be at the bottom of the list).

If you set it up like the tivoweb site show it should work. I have both of my HR10s using PPP to dial out. One is on 6.3a and the other is 3.1.5. The upgraded box was using PPP to get persmission to upgraded to 6.3. When 6.3a came out it used PPP to get permission to apply that update as well. I have tried forcing calls with the 6.3a box and it seems to work fine.

Yes, I figured it out, (no thanks to runnerfl who claimed it didn't exist..)
I somehow had dsscon=true set...
