View Full Version : DirecTV HD package and RSN
Does anyone know if the HD package is required to get HD games that are broadcast by the local RSN on channels 95, 96 or 97?
My Dad has an HR10-250 and has been getting his HD games on channel 95, but just cancelled the HD package - will he still see the games on 95 when they are on the local SD RSN channel?

The hd package only includes the 7 channels. Any additional such as dns and rsn feeds are depending whether or not the customer is qualified. So to answer you question he would keep the rsn w/out the hd package.

I believe you must have one of the MPEG 4 receivers to get the HD RSN channels. The HR10-250 will not get the HD RSN. Fred

If an HD game is on channel 95 then your HR10-250 will get it just fine (assuming you aren't blacked out). Games on 96 or 97 are MPEG4 and you need the new AT9 5LNB dish to receive them and an MPEG4 receiver (H20 or HR20 DVR) to watch them.

is there a schedule posted anywhere for these games?

No, you just have to check the guide each day (the online guide on DirecTV.com is updated with it). But I've seen it change from day to day so you never really know what will be on the special events channel from day to day.

I'm getting channel 95 which is broadcasting an HD football game, the network is FSN HD. I'm in Massachusetts. The teams playing are Iowa v Oklahoma (12-4:30pm Saturday 10/14). Obviously it can't be MPEG4, but it appears to be possible to get a RSN with the HR10-250 in MPEG2.
