For the last two days my TIVO is VERY SLOW and takes 5-10 minutes to respond to a command. I tried to delete alot of recordings, but it's still VERY SLOW. HELP!!! The D** logos on the top when in list mode seem to be freezing up. Too bad there is not a defragging utility for TIVO.

Can anyone tell me how to check if I have 6.3 installed?
My system information says: Software Version 3.1.5f-01-2-357
I haven't modified my TIVO yet, but have the TwinBreeze bracket, 400gb drive, and software to do it.

Any help would be appreciated. I called Dave and they told me to format my drive, but I want to keep some of my recorded shows. Thanks in advance.

PVRs don't fragment, and fragmentation can't really contribute to significant slowdowns in situations like this. You either got a bad up rev (doubtful since system info still says 3.1) or the OS is just confused, or it can't reconcile its DB with what content it is seeing on the HDD. Or, the HDD is failing, but that usually results in constant spontaneous reboots.

The first thing is to reboot. Unlike DISH PVRs, that is unlikely to make recordings disappear, although if you have a bad one, it might go away. 99% of the time, that will fix things.

You can go to the restart page and start going through the options, but each is more invasive than the previous one, and if you have a bad HDD that might push it over the edge (I've seen that, and it isn't pretty). If you get bogged down in that, go to wikipedia for Tivo kick-start codes as a last resort.

But I would try to watch or dub off current recordings first, and try not to add new recordings. Otherwise, you may kill your only chance to view those recordings.

And definitely save the add-on until after resolving your current problems. If your HDD fails right before you do an add-on, consider the timing as lucky. If it failed after the add-on, you'd be in a lot worse shape.

It does reboot every now and then on its own. When it does reboot it says "unable to get info from satellite and I then pick watch live tv. It seems to be working ok today. I noticed that it was updating around the same time as it was going slow according to the system info. Anyone else have any ideas? How can I fix it?

Since noone can seem to help me I just called D* and they told me the 6.3 software was sent down on Sept 12 to some customers and the rest will receive it on Oct 4 at 2 am local time. And the 72.5 bug has been fixed. So I will just have to wait till then.

Mine slows down about every 6 to 8 months. I just do a "clear and Delete" and I'm good for the next period.

Before running a 'clear and delete', try a "Clear All Program Data and ToDos". I just did that on my HR10-250 yesterday, and MAN.... it's great!! It fixed the slow programming, late recording starts, random rebooting, etc. And all without loosing my recorded shows. (you have to setup your season passes and wish lists again though).

Paul is correct I led you too far. That is what I do. Sorry!

It's rebooting and not taking commands again  So I'm "Clearing all program data and to do list" now.

HELP! I started "Clearing all program data and to do lists" last night and it's still running. is this normal? The red record light on the HR10-250 is blinking on and off as it has been for 12 plus hours now. Should I just reboot the receiver?

It can take 24 hrs to do it, don't worry about the screen that says it will be an hour. Heck even my DVR40 took 3 hrs this past weekend.

I'm getting madder by the minute. I have had this "clearing all program data and to do list" running for over 20 hours now. Is this ever going to finish? Or is my receiver stuck or ruined? SOMEONE PLEASE ADVISE ME!!!

If it hasn't stopped yet, you might be having a bad hard drive issue. But since your thinking about upgrading anyway, just go for it.

Maybe it's running Spinrite at Level 5 :-)

You got all that stuff?

Break down, suck it up, and do the upgrade, even if you lose stuff.

You'll want to get a virgin 3.1xxxxx OS on it, before the next 6.3 run through (which looks like Oct 4).

My advice would be to do the upgrade, and do a "Clear and Delete Everything" after you get it installed (and as the ptv instructions tell you).

You're at a crossroads, take advantage of it.

Thanks for the advice guys. :D I have the D* insurance plan and they are sending me another HR10-250. I have also purchased another new one off ebay for $383.00. Should I let the new box I bought burn-in for awile to make sure the HDMI port works, and if so how long should I let it burn in for? I'm going to hack the new box and leave the D* replacement box alone for now. Anyone know where the "seal" is on the box that if broken voids the warranty? D* told me if I break the seal I void the warranty. Thanks again.
