View Full Version : Do you pay per month for a leased HR10-250?

I need to get an HR10-250. I am about to just go and buy one at CompUSA. I plan on also doing the $100 rebate as I just signed up with DirecTV. What is confusing me is the lease aspect.

I understand if I "buy" this from CompUSA it really is a leased unit. But does this mean I pay more per month? I could just purchase a unit from an Internet retailer. What does this really gain me?

I do plan on hacking and I am pretty capable of fixing the unit my self. So the warranty through DirecTV does not really gain me anything.

It more is an issue that I have a DirecTV guy coming in two hours. I think I might be able to convince them to not nstall an HR20 if I have an HR10 here ready to go. I can then get DirecTV to credit me the $400 they charged me already for the HR20 but have not delivered.

Any help appreciated.

I do know this, from recent experience. If you get the HR20 installed and activated, and then immediately see that it is a big mistake and have it deactivated, the 2-year commitment clock has already started, and you are committed to keeping DTV programming for another 2 years, regardless if you keep the HR20 or not.

The only ONLY way I got out of this was that there was no way to install the AT9 dish at my location, but I had to yell at some tool in retention for quite a while to get that to happen. So, good luck with that. I think you may have to do some eventual yelling at tools in retention, too, but they should definitely comp you for a HR10, which is probably an infinitely better choice if you are not interested in MPEG4 channels.

I am fine with the two year commitment for the programming. My issue with DirecTV is will they just credit the DVR they charged me for and did not deliver.

Obvious you would think they would but I have never seen a more ignorant company for this type of thing.

When I originally ordered they would not let me just go buy a HD receiver or HD DVR. They insisted that I get one from them. So I bought it from them. THat was a month ago. But they now have not been able to deliver it. So now I am thinking they will let me just get my own.

Well I guess I will see when/if the direcTV guy comes this afternoon.

They also have to take the HD receiver they installed last week telling me it is a DVR. What a laugh.
