I have an auto recording wishlist setup, and it finds programs on NBCE 82 and m local NBC 6. It wants to record channel 82 (I do get 82). Is there anyway to force i to record on channel 6 (Automatically, without me having to babysit it)?

Here's how I understand it, but maybe someone could elaborate or correct my perception:

I assume you are speaking of HD channels (6.1, for instance, rather than 6).

If we are talking about a program that appears on both HD channels at the same time, Tivo will chose the lower channel of the two, assuming that the WL or SP did not specify either channel. If you specify in a SP (difficult to accomplish in a WL) the original channel, that one should be the one it picks.

For instance, if you set a WL for a title-keyword WL for "Desperate Housewives", the WL will record anything with that term in the title or description, I think, and will pick the lower of two channels with the same program that overlaps.

If you set a SP targeting "Desperate Housewives" on 82, rather than 6.1, Tivo will opt for the eps on 82, and will only record eps on 6.1 if there are unique eps on 6.1 in the 28-day window, or unless you set it to record "all with duplicates". If you want primarily the eps from 6.1, target that one instead.

If you are having trouble making Tivo opt for HD 82 over SD LIL 6, that it a bit different. Either take the SD LIL channel out of the "you receive" list, or add a secondary category (Audio & Video: HDTV) for HD shows that you want your Tivo to find using a WL.

I don't have the SD LIL channels on my list, so that never presents a problem.

A season pass is channel specific.

I don't get any channels over the air. I want it to record SD channel 6 over the sat instead of 82 NBC-E

We need more information.

Why a wish list rather than a season pass. What are you trying to record?

OK. That helps.

If you are using a WL, about the only way to do this is to remove 82 from channels "you receive". That only becomes impractical if there are other occasions you want Tivo to pick programs from 82 instead of 6. Even if you remove it from the list, you can still tune to 82 directly and do crash recording on that channel, just by pressing "8..2" on the remote during live TV, but kept out of the list, WLs and SPs will ignore it.

But, if you are using a SP instead of a WL, as has been stated at least twice already here, you can target the SP to 6, rather than 82, when you set the SP up. Then there is no need to remove 82 from the "receive" list.

Hope that helps.

Wish lists are not channel specific and season passes are. Probably no way to make a wish list channel specific except by getting rid of the other channels like suggested above. Even that is not efficient though because there can be other instances of ( whatever you are trying to record ) on still other channels. If it is a specific show, its easy - go to the show on the channel you want somewhere in the program guide and set season pass. If you are trying to record whatever is on some specific channel, you'll need to do that manually.

What are you trying to record?

I'm trying to record Dateline, but I don't want all episodes, only specific ones with a specific topic. A season pass wouldn't work because it would grab all Datelines on the channel (Without me babysitting it).

Yeah, that's gonna be hard.

Why do you want to force it to 6?

Looks like your choices are to do an SP and delete recordings you don't want either before or after they are recorded or get what the wishlist gives you.
