ok i searched the forum and still cannot figure this out. can a diplexer make one line from the satellite split in two for the dtivo receiver? i'm guessing not since that makes it too easy :).
but here's my situation - i have a dual LNB dish and there is already a multiswitch there so that all the rooms are wired for satellite (but only one coax per room). i am replacing my old non tivo unit with the sd-dvr40 and obvioulsy now need two coax's - right? it is not possible to run another line from the multiswitch to the room i need. is there any way to use the one existing line that i do have and make it two? from what i'm rading, the diplexer can only mix/seperate a cable or antennae with a satellite - not two satellite signals? thanks for any help or further explanation!

No
You may...
1 - buy a bigger multiswitch and run a 2nd coax to the new box
2 - buy a stacker/destacker, not a splitter or diplexer
From what I have read on this forum, a stacker/destacker is VERY expensive

You only NEED 1 satellite feed for your DirecTivo. Having two satellite feeds will allow you to record two shows at once, but the DirecTivo will also record 1 show at a time with 1 satellite feed. I have both of my DirecTivo's hooked up this way for a couple of years - no problems.

Absolutely true... but that does not allow watching one program while recording another

With 1 satellite feed you can record 1 show and watch a different prerecorded show. If you have multiple hacked DirecTivo's, then you can record 1 show on each and use MRV to watch any prerecorded show from any DirecTivo.

can the stacker/destacker thing be hooked up after the multiswitch? or does it have to be directly from the satellite to work? now i know that the receiver i'm going to is pretty far from my dish, so is that going to make any problems? i don't think the receiver i have now has ever had a problem but i also haven't had to worry about a destacker.

Back on the main page, on the right just above the messages, is a SEARCH THIS FORUM option
Go there, and enter
destacker
Then read the other messages

i did - and i looked at all the digrams -- i can't figure out if i need the stacker before or after my main multiswitch at the dish.

Put a stacker on two lines from the multiswitch you have (obviously you need two). Then use a dual destacker on that line that has been stacked to split out the two lines you need for the DVR. If you don't have two lines available for the stacker, then you can cascade another switch after the existing one.
