I have an LCD that is native 1366x768 resolution.
For best viewing, should I set my receiver to 720p or should I set it for 1080i and let the TV do the downconversion?

I'm in a similar situation, with an LCD at that resolution. I think the best advice would be to try both and see what you like better. That's what I'm doing.
Right now, I am set to 720p fixed. I'll go back to native in a day or so and see if I notice a difference.

I'm thinking of getting one of Samsung's or Toshiba's new 1080p LCD's. Those things look sweet!

Like cuyahoga said, you have to try different setting and see what works best.
Since your TV natively displays 1366x768 all signals will have to be scaled to that resolution. So theoretically your TV should be able to do the best job since you are scalling the resolution one less time.
If you were watching a 1080i show and had your TiVo's output resolution set to 720p then your TiVo would scale the 1080i to 720p then your TV would scale the 720p to 768p.
Theoretically every time you scale the picture you risk degradation. So I would think that pass through would work the best.
However, some TV's take a second to change resolutions which could annoy you when switching between a 720p to 1080i show.

That's a really good point. I hadn't thought of it that way. I like the quicker channel changes when I send out a fixed resolution, but the multiple scaling could be hurting things a bit.
