I won't watch doctor shows. I have no interest in them. I tried watching House for a while but finally gave up on it. I've never seen ER or the new favorite Grey's Anatomy.
I also won't watch lawyer shows or crime scene investigation dramas. None of the Survivor clones either.

Me? I despise lawyer shows...

Lawyer shows, CSI and its clones, anything resembling American Idol, medical shows (except Scrubs). I actually used to like ER but it's played out.

Besides "24," I likely won't watch any of the "serial dramas" that copy 24's style. I mean, I don't mind a little serialization, like DS9 did, where each episode builds on what happened in the last; I just don't like series that all tell one continuous story and don't really have seperate episodes per-se.
Heck, even 24 I cooled on this season, and might not watch next season.

And yet somehow I still watch too much TV, on average.

I've seen some of South Park and just don't like it. Some of the humor is funny, but I just can't get over the fact that it's a cartoon.

I thought I was the only person on the planet that did not watch "cop shows". Basically anything involving crime. It's amazing how much time that opens up on the schedule when you weed out the cop shows.
I also dont watch medical shows, except for Scrubs and night-time soaps.

1)Lawyer shows
2)Cop shows or anything close to that genre
3)Medical shows of any kind
The sad thing is my wife love all these genres and fills up our many DVR's with first run and re-runs of them :(
Edit to add: How could I have forgotten.......................... Reality shows.

I don't watch cop shows as a general rule (although I've been known to make the occasional exception).
Basically any show that starts with the premise of "an elite team of law enforcement agents who solve tough crimes" and I lose interest. Which seems to be the majority of CBS shows, which is why I don't watch much CBS.

It's "drawn" on computers. The "crude" animation is one of the elements that makes South Park what it is.

TV News (except occasionally the weather report)

I won't rule out a show based on its genre - that's just closed-mindedness. If a show is well-written and well-acted, I could care less what its setting is. That being said, I don't much like all the "reality" TV out there, but I've watched Survivor since Season 2. I also don't watch much news or pseudo-news, nor do I watch the newsmagazine-type shows or pundit shows. I have no objection to them, they just harsh my vibe. :)

yes. But that was only the FIRST epsiode, IIRC, as that is how they made the video Christmas card that started the whole thing. Since then, they haven't done it that way. The guys (matt and trey) mentioned how funny it is that they use really fancy computers and software to make such "crude" animations.

well they're not - some cartoons have a good message (Veggie Tales)... I guess my point was, I can't imagine not enjoying the occasional cartoon even as an adult. Not every cartoon, mind you, just the occasional one...

Reality Shows
Soaps
Tabloid Shows (E.T., etc..)
Anything Religious (700 club, etc..)
Sensational Talk Shows (Jerry Springer, Maury, etc..)
"Real" Court Shows (like Peoples Court)
Cops (or anything like it)
Anything like "Worlds Scariest Car Chases", or "Worlds Craziest Bridezillas", etc..
Anything showing real surgeries or autopsies.
And no, I really don't watch a single show of any of those types. Blech.

Nothing sports related, if I want sports I'll go outside and play 'em.
No news shows (real or otherwise).
No talk shows (specifically day time talk) unless certain actors are on and even then I usually don't last the whole segment.
No lawyer/crime shows.

The only two genres I can think of that I haven't watched a single show in the last few years are lawyer and medical dramas. I've watched one "cop show" if you can call it that, it was "Kojak" on USA Network.
I guess I'm just tired now of seeing that stuff over and over and over and over again decade after decade...

No reality TV
No soap operas (but I do like hour-long primetime dramas)
No sports. (OK, occasionally NFL football)
No westerns (yet I LOVE me some Deadwood)
I'll dabble in almost anything else -- maybe just a teeny bit, but I'll at least try it. If my list above proves anything, it's that it sometimes pays to just try some stuff out. I missed out on 2 seasons of Deadwood (thanks Netflix!) just because I generally don't like westerns.

I'm with Sketcher. Anything "... with the Stars!" or "Celebrity" anything is out.
"X" or "Extreme" anything (except Extreme Makeover - Home Edition. Pretty awkward title now that I think about it.)
No cop/crime shows - not sure why. Think the last one I watched on a regular basis was The Rockford Files.
Dang, I'm old.
No medical shows for me, along with no modern comedies where sexual innuendo and bathroom humor get passed off as 'comedy'. Call me old school but I want comedies with well written scripts.
I don't watch football either. It's utterly boring to me and I can always find something else that's much more interesting.

Eh...when there were only 3 channels and it was all that was on I watched cartoons, but I much preferred stuff like Morgan Freeman in The Electric Company as far as children's television. And no, I have no desire to watch any of now.

I am pretty much out on doctor shows by default. The only exception I can think of since Quincy (which I do not think is necessarily a Doctor show), is Scrubs. Any medical dramas is an instant rejection.

I guess I'm learning to be more Never Say Never.
I don't care for Westerns and yet I think Deadwood is one of the best shows of all time. I also initially didn't like the western aspect of Firefly, wrong there too, amazing show.
Sports Night. Don't really have the sports gene, had no interest in watching a show about sports, turns out it was the opening salvo for Aaron Sorkins incredible writing.
Reality shows, I have several friends that hate this genre and yet once they gave The Amazing Race a chance they were hooked, now I rub their noses in it. :)
I will admit I get overwhelmed with Cop, Lawyer and Doctor. I try and chose the best of the bunch and enjoy it by pacing myself with a lots of Tivos during re-run months and the summer.

No Talent shows (didn't we suffer through enough of those in school?)
While I will watch law shows (I use to love Judging Amy before it got cancled) and some cop-like shows (I saw cop like because the only one I've watched is CSI and nothing like NYPD Blud or anything) I can't STAND any of the Law & Order shows. That includes the original and any of its spin-offs.
I also don't like dating shows at all. (And very mad that a show like Love Connection is shown on GSN when I don't think it should be catagorized as a game show at all!)

I watched the "The Real World" for a time until I figured out the formula and grew tired of it. I haven't bothered watching any reality show since, unless "The Office" counts as a reality show (it isn't any more fake).
- Gossipy women's shows. (Oprah, View...)
- Anything MTV-ish. (Where kids care more about looking "hot" than making sense.)
- Anime (I enjoy animation in general, but not anime.)

Traditional sitcoms. I used to watch a lot of them growing up, but at some point I realized how much time I was wasting on these shows without getting anything of value out of it. I stopped watching them on principle, and never felt the need to go back. Of course by now all my other TV genres fill up my days just as thoroughly :o
Reality contest shows. Anything with a process of elimination is right out.

There's lots of genres I may not like as a whole, but I can't think of one where there isn't one or more outstanding exceptions that transcends its "limitations." To not watch a show JUST because it belongs to a particular category is too narrow-minded of a viewpoint.

I don't think anyone here is being dogmatic about absolutely never watching a particular genre. Generally, shows of a given theme are similar enough that if you don't like that theme, probably you won't necessarily be drawn to the newest version of it. It isn't "close minded", it's personal preference.

Maybe some adults like the art thats in some cartoons!
Have you ever watched Spirited away or Howls moving castle. ???
Some, not all cartoons are just amazing works of art.
I dont like doc. shows or crime shows usually either.... or reality....I have tooo much reality in my everyday life. When I watch tv its to escape all that bs. So usually i like something with a twist of fantasy.
