View Full Version : No way to do hybrid with 480i instead of 480p?

Unfortunately, if your TV doesn't do 720p (mine doesn't), you can't use Native and you have to use the 1080i Fixed or 1080i Hybrid modes. I'd prefer the Hybrid, except it insists on 480p instead of the native resolution of 480i, which prevents my TV's really good deinterlacer from kicking in. The TiVo onboard deinterlacer is a bit weak, to put it mildly. 480p also disables all the aspect/stretch features on my TV, which are much more extensive than the limited panel/zoom/full modes on the TiVo.

The Pioneer DVD/TiVo units allowed you to use either 480i or 480p. Has anyone seen a similar setting on the S3 that would determine the 480 mode for hybrid? I've looked, but I don't see anything.

I can force everything to 480i, but what's the point of an HDTiVo if you do that? :)

Unfortunately, no, you can't use 480i in hybrid.

Hm, I hope they change that. It's a rather unnecessary limitation, since their video encoder can clearly do 480i.

All it'd need is Messages & Settings -> Settings -> Video -> Hybrid 480 Mode -> Interlaced|Progressive

Same here.. 480p is alot worse than 480i on mine.. and I don't have 720p. So, now I have to change resolutions in the menu everytime I want to switch between SD and HD shows.

It seems like 480i/1080i should be one of the combinations..

Anyone from TiVo want to chime in? :)

I'm in the same boat. Any progressive or HD signal locks my TV into FULL mode. If the 1080 Hybrid mode let me choose 480I I could let my TV do a better "stretch" of SD material than the S3 could do.
