I have a 50" Panasonic plasma, a TH50PHD6UY, with a DVI input.
My S3 arrived today so I connected it to my TV using the HDMI output, an HDMI -> DVI converter, and a DVI cable.
In 480p mode, things are fine. But if I switch to 720p, there is a 1" vertical strip of random static on the right edge of my screen. With 1080i there is also a strip of static but it is narrower. The rest of the screen looks perfect. The same screen viewed through s-video or component has no problems.
I'm pretty confident this is not a cabling issue. My suspicion is that the 1366x768 resolution of the display simply cannot be handled by the tivo. I am disappointed but not entirely surprised; 1366 is not divisible by 8, and the last time I checked, almost all PC video cards, even high end ones, can only produce DVI at screen widths that are a multiple of 8 pixels. Perhaps the S3 has the same limitation?
If indeed the hardware requires it, I would be OK if the tivo went up to 1368x768 and I lost two pixels, or maybe down to 1360 and left me with 6 black pixels. But the random static is intolerable.
For now I guess I'll switch to component cables. But having to convert my signal to analog and back again is really sad.
Has anyone else seen this? Tivo, can you fix?
