I did a 2-year new deal with D* last October when they gave me the box and sat deal. If I ever received the exact terms, I have long since lost track of them and couldn't find anything applicable on the website.

Here is what I am trying to find out. I am moving in late October. In the fine print of the D* 2 year deal, do I have an "out" at either 1-year or due to a relocation?

I realize they would move my setup, but I want to technically know if I have this legal option? I know with many such deals, relocation does provide an out clause, and also with many deals there is a clause that allows an out (perhaps with a small penalty) at the one year anniversary.

I am not certain I want to do this, but I want to know my options. I have been a D* custoemr since 1996 and a D*TiVo customer since 2000, but I am tired of the poor line-up of HD channels, the use of HD-Lite and the lack of upgrades of the DVR software to keep up with functionality available in the stand-alone TiVo or Media Centers. And it is WAY cheaper to get it all from my cable operator -- I can get HDTV, high speed internet and VoIP with unlimited calling for $99. Or in my area I will soon be able to do the same triple pay with Verizon and their new FIOS service. SO I want to use this move to consider all my options...

Any help from someone with specific knowledge, a link or a copy of the contract is appreciated.

Thanks.

You can pay $12.50 per unfulfilled month of the contract to get out of it. Also, if you own (not lease) the equipment you can send all equipment back to DTV and that would get you out. I'm not sure of what is stated in the contract or even if there is one.

If D* moves you, they'll want a year commitment from the new install date. If you're already in a 2 year, it probably won't overlap. If you got your new receivers prior to March 1st of this year, then you should be holding ownership of them instead of "leasing" them, and D* will terminate your contract if you return those receivers to them at $20 apiece, or you can pay $12.50 for each month of your current contract that is left if you don't return the equipment. If your "leasing" the eq, then you have to return the eq either way, and you're still stuck with any cancellation fees.
