View Full Version : I Need Help Directv Screwed Me
i will try and make this short. i had a old hdvr2 the stopped working so i called DT and they said since it is a old one they will send me a new one for free but i have to pay for shipping and sign a 2 year contract. i told him i want a tivo not a r15 he said no problem we will send u a refurbished tivo box this was on 9/5. i got my box an it was a r15 a called them and told them i didn't want this i wanted a tivo they said they didn't have any left. asked for a supervisor they told me he will call me back with in 24hr. never called so i called back and asked to speak to a supervisor he finally got on the phone and told me there is no way we can send you a tivo box we don't have them but i could give you a $20 credit for the shipping and give you $10 off your bill for the next 6 months i said OK and activated my box. i got my bill and the didn't take off the $20 or the $10 so i called up and they said that there is no notes in my account about that and they cant give it to me. so now i am stuck it a 2 year contract with this crappy r15 and no discount what can i do.

send it back to them and cancel DTV.
You can get out of the contract by sending back to them any equipment that created a contract extension.
I think we are going to see a lot of this now that DTV is indeed out of TiVo units.
You can buy a refurb TiVo from ptvupgrades or a used one off of ebay though.

Call retention and explain the whole thing to them. I suspect the supervisor was not supposed to offer those to you or they just gave you another CSR posing as a supervisor. See what retention can do for you. You should be able to send back the R15 and cancel the 2-yr contract.
If you get a new hard drive and a CD of instantcake you could repair your old HDVR2 and keep the R15 (put it into the kids room or someplace you do not watch as much tv). You can never have enough tuners... I would then call retention and request they eat the mirror fee for a few months or what ever after explaining this story to them. They will try to work with you as much as they can.
I would use this as an opportunity for a second DVR.
Retention's number is 800-824-9081
good luck,

short of buying your own DirecTiVo elsewhere I don't see any other solution.

You MIGHT get one but if you don't specifically ask for one you will likley get the new HR20.

No you can't. This is an old wives tale. :p Once the equipment is installed and activated your stuck with the extra commitment even if you send it back the next day. This is to upgrade an exsisting customer for a brand new customer you have a 30 day cancel window.

The #1 way to deal with DTV is to call to cancel your account. The guys in the account canceling department can often move mountains. Basically tell them you view them in breach of contract as they have failed to provide the requested goods, and services. You want to return all equipment as it is not what you ordered. As the 2 year service contract was contingent on the delivery of the requested hardware. If they fail to do this tell them you intend to dispute the charges on your credit card, and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
The important thing is to sound sad, and fustrated about it. Be sure to explain all you want is your tivo, and you really feel you have no choice.
