View Full Version : Message #51?

I just fired up my new refurb DSR704 and everything works fine, except that when I go to now playing I'm told there is some sort of hardware error and it can't record until I restart the recorder. Of course I've already done this several times, and always get the message along with "Message #51" as the error. It tells me to call Phillips, but the phone number provided of course tells me they can't help me and I have to call DirecTV.

Anyone know what this message means and what to do about it?

May have found the solution here:

Yes - Clear and delete everything is what you need.

OK, running now on both new Tivos... unfortunately, with 400gig Drives, it's going to take a LONG time. SIGH... and I wanted to play with my new toys NOW! WAAAAAAH!!! :)

Didn't you just Zipper these or have you gotten to that yet?
Either way if you would have read the Zipper instructions you may have saved yourself a lot of time with this from the Zipper instructions:
If you get an error #51 on your tv screen, enter the following command:
tivosh/busybox/51killer.tcl Do not do a "clear and delete everything", even if the
Instantcake directions tell you to.

ah... heh... oh well, live & learn. No I haven't zippered the drives yet, I'm just not in a place where I have the time or physical space to set everything up for zippering, but I wanted the TiVos running right away, so I just set them up stock for now, will zipper them later when life allows, and when I can't stand not having MRV any longer.

But thanks for the pointer! Both machines are working famously now.

Ah... OK. Sorry, I assumed you were going to Zipper right away. In your case you did the only thing you could (C&DE) in order to get normal functions going.

Glad to hear the drive installs went well.

See us in the Underground when you get to The Zipper. :)
