can my DirecTivo be installed instead of R-15

On Thursday I have DirecTv coming to install my R-15....But I dont want it :) So I recently bought a SIR-4080R from someone and verified it is working....even has some old stuff still recorded. I called DirecTv and they told me that if the installer wants to do it he can, otherwise I would have to wait untill he leaves then call them up and get a new card sent to me, and activate that one.

Can the installed give me the card, and activate my DirecTivo in place of the R-15 he is gonna try to install?

Maybe. If the R15 hasn't been activated already, then it's possible. Whether or not the installer will be willing to do so is another story. You may have to pay extra if you don't get the R15 installed.

I hope so, I don't want that P.O.S. R15....Sorry to anyone who likes it, but I like the Tivo interface much better.

No. You will have to buy a new one from DirecTV.

are you sure? I've read that you can use the one they give you in other recievers it just takes a little coaxing on the phone

I think people have done a lot of whining/crying on the phone to not have to get a new card.

If the policy is that it's $20 to get a new card sent out to activate a used unit you bought or someone gave you I just do it. It's no big hardship for me. I've done it a few times. When I sell units on EBAY I clearly state - ACCESS CARD NOT INCLUDED.

how long does it take for DirecTv to send you a new access card?
I want my Tivo to work so bad :)
