I have been with DirecTV for 7 years now and have had the protection plan since the beginning.

I started at $5.99 and until recently I was one of the saps paying $7.99 while other with "advanced products" were paying $5.99.

I just looked at my statement online and noticed my protection plan wasn't listed. I sent them an email asking and the response I got was:

Dear Mr. X,

Thanks for writing regarding your concern in the DIRECTV protection Plan. Upon review of your account, I found that you are not subscribe to the Protection Plan.

In relation to this, for a low monthly fee, you can protect your DIRECTV System with the DIRECTV PROTECTION PLAN, which offers professional technical services including:

- Free technical troubleshooting, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
- Coverage of wiring, satellite antenna, connections/switches, and more
- Power surge-related repairs
- Dish realignments
- Service calls from a trained technician if we can’t fix the problem over the phone.
- Replacement of defective equipment including remotes and receivers (if problem cannot be resolved over the phone)

I am now going back and looking at my statements and it looks like it was dropped 2 months ago, but I never cancelled it.

Wa happened? Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks

AJC

About two months ago the directv web site was automatically removing the protection plan if you made any programming changes via the website. There was nothing you could do to keep it from being removed.

I also had the opposite happen... I just started to be charged for no apparent reason. They couldn't figure out how it has started (it wasn't due to the website)
