The New York Times has a short article authored by Saul Hansell and titled "Satellite TV’s 3-Headed Rival: Cable Plus Internet Plus Phone (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/18/business/media/18marketplace.html?_r=1&oref=slogin)", which restates what I have been saying for the last two years.

Since "Wireless DBS" failed to secure any licenses in the FCC auction in August, I feel that DirecTV not only has become the "Turd Bird", but we have been "Orphaned" by Murdoch.

Last week the CEO of News Corporation was talking about internet distribution and I believe that is what Murdoch is finally thinking about. I believe that Murdoch finally woke up.

What does this mean to us DirecTV customers?

Where do we end up?

Do they follow through and slowly release more HD via MPEG4, over the next couple of years?

Do they follow through and activate the showcase like VOD on the R15 and HR20?

Do come out with a "Media Server" like device that they show at CES 2005?

Do they just let the "Turd Bird" set and churn out profit and no longer make any competitive enhancements?

Are we now just an after-thought? :(
