2.3a installation hangs (not responding)

Running the 2.3a installer on XP Pro SP2, the "welcome" screen of the installer stalls and says "not responding".

Made sure I have removed the previous version and renamed the exisiting Tivo directories as well. Nothing is listed in either the "add/remove apps" or the "services" apps. Then did a full reboot.

Any ideas?

Maybe try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/)? Or go through your registry and remove any and all "TiVo" references.
