Has anyone been successful installing a Tivo Series 3 in San Francisco with Comcast using cable cards?

So did it work or not ?

Whether something works or not a COMCAST employee visit is always comical.

I love it when they come over to sell me cabletv and I tell them I have DIRECTV.
They tell me about how awful it is that when it rains the DIRECTV signal goes out and I say - No it doesn't, it only goes out for a few minutes during a really, really heavy downpour. Then I tell them I'm getting more channels for my money with DIRECTV compared to cabletv and they never even try to argue that point with me.

Comcast installed both cards for me in Pacifica on Friday. Both worked on the first shot no problems other than the installer

Yes the installer was rather comical my appointment was scheduled to happen between 10 and 2 at 2:30 I called Comcast to ask if the installer was still coming out, I was put on hold so the rep could contact the installer. When the rep came back on the line I was told the installer was at my house, I told her if he was here I would not be calling asked where he was, she contacted him again and then told me he was working on the poll up the block from my house. I asked why since this was for a cable card install, she could not tell me why but that he would be here when he was finished working on the poll.

About 10 minutes later he arrived and wanted to see the “TV” I told him it was for the new Tivo Series 3 and he told me that Tivo doesn’t use cable cards. That started a long conversation and I had to show him the slots in the back. With much reluctance on his part I managed to convince him to put one card in the bottom slot and try, he wanted to install both at the same time, I needed to show him the page where it states to install on the bottom slot first. He finally called to active the card and said he would try it once but it would not work, if cable cards were meant to work in Tivos he would have installed them before. I kept telling him this was a new product and I’m sure most installers have never seen one before, but please try. After about five minutes the setup and activation of the card was complete and worked. He was rather shocked, and agreed to install the second card which also worked without problems.

Hang in there. It seems that we will need to teach installers on how to do this, since cable companies are not.

The Comcast guy will be at my place on Wednesday, so I will report back then. I am in the east bay.

Comcast guy just left. Install and testing on first card went smooth. Second card got the 161-4. Ignored it as I have been reading. 2nd card tested fine after a few minutes. After the cards tested ok it asked if I wanted to redo guided setup. I selected yes, the machine rebooted then told me the config had changed and popped back into the cablecard test menu. Tested the cards and neither worked. after about 1 minute they bothed started working. I think this was because of the reboot and the cards needed some time to resync. So then I did guided setup, which i am in the middle of now.
