View Full Version : DSR704 versus R10? Opinions?
I found DSR704s on a site to buy. I just signed up for DirecTV and need a Tivo. Everyone over on DBSTalk talks about the R10.
How does the DSR704 compare with the R10? Pluses/minuses? Or is it actually the same?
Thanks for any help

same functionality across the board. The only diference is the R10 cannot be hacked for Network access, or any other "fun stuff" besides increasing it's recording capacity.
Thanks! Well that makes the decision easier. Guess I will buy one of the 704s this evening.

I have both and the R-10 has more storage space and runs a little faster IMO. Adding extra space is the same for either. Unless your certain you will hack the unit, I have never gotten around to it in multiple years, the R-10 would probably be easier to find.

I'd definitely go for the 704. I didn't think I'd use Multi-Room Viewing or Tivo2Go, but after hacking both of mine, I find both services quite handy.

Tivo2Go? Do you mean something else like HMO or *other* things?

PTVupgrade is where I bought the DSR704. Just added 300GB also did the major add ons. Have not done it in a while. Wow! It has gotten a lot, lot easier. Was done in 90 minutes.
I am in heaven coming from 4 SA units. 2 tuners, almost every channel with DirecTV. The DSR704 is really responsive. More so then our Series 1 and 2 SA units.
Why oh why would DirecTV move away from the Tivo units. It is nuts.
