View Full Version : Will Icake work on new drive and no original?
Have hacked several SA Tivos. Now I am a new DirecTV customer. About to purchase a DSR704 unit without hard drive. WIll Icake allow me to buy a brand new drive and put it in this DSR704 and make it work?
Can I take the access card out of one of my receivers and make it work in the DSR704?
Thanks for any help.

Instantcake is designed for using on a new hard drive. When I built a 160gb backup drive for my RCA, that is what I used. I didn't use the existing image on the original drive.
My understanding is the access card is tied to the unit, so they cannot be installed. You might get a different answer talking to the right CSR at Directv, though.

Yes - you just need to call D* customer service and "pair" the card with the new receiver. I've done so a couple of times.
