Even though I scheduled the appt. Friday for Monday night they called me at work at noon Monday to say they can't give me cable cards "because they were not properly notified of this device". I told them to call Tivo to get it straightened out, and I also called Tivo VIP line to have them do the same. I won't even mention that I picked up the S3 at Best Buy Saturday and still haven't received a tracking number or anything on my Tivo.com order I placed Tuesday morning and will return if it ever shows up.
Needless to say i'm not a happy camper right now

Seems as though you did mention it. :p
Sorry about the Bright House CC issue. Hopefully TiVo can help you get it resolved. You can also tell Bright House Cable that you'll contact the FCC if they don't assist in getting you the cablecards.

Where abouts in Florida are you?
I've posted in several threads here that I had complete success with Bright House in the Tampa area, both on the phone, and with the installer.
If you are in the Tampa area, there is another post somewhere from a guy who knows one of the Bright House GM's - I'd have to search for it - but he might be a helpful resource.
Let me look around and I'll edit this message and post the link.

You need to remind them that they are required by law to supply CableCARDs for all CableLabs approved equipment, and that the TiVo Series3 is on the CableLabs approved list. (model # TCD648250B)
If they still refuse tell them that you next call will be to the FCC or local franchise authority.

I already read them the riot act but so far that has done me no good. I called Tivo's VIP # to have them resolve and no dice yet and I called 4 hours ago. This is turning out to be a far greater hassle than I ever dreamed when I plunked down my $1000

That really sucks! :(
Perhaps a call to your local franchise authority or the FCC is actually in order.

I have BrightHouse in Livonia, MI and went through a similar argument. I've had problems with them in the past, so I immediately filed a complaint with the city cable commission and sent something off to the FCC. The city employee called on my behalf and two days later I got a call from BrightHouse apologizing that the rep didn't speak with a manger.
They said $3/month rental for the cablecard and free "installation" (required) to test signal strength since my previous service was analog cable. Since it was a new technology they originally misspoke.

I'm in Orlando, I'll look for the thread
If you can use an antenna for reception of digital channels, I'd be interested in knowing if you can receive Fox 35.1 on your S3. I'm unable to tune to 35.1 with the S3 even though my 3 other ATSC tuners have no problem. I think the problem is with the Guide data supplied for the Orlando area (it doesn't provide a frequency assignment for 35.1), and not with my S3, but I need someone else in the area to try with their S3 to confirm.

Bright House just called me to confirm my appt. I will not believe this until I have the babies installed, but will keep my fingers crossed.
(Why do I have the feeling that I am not out of the woods yet?) :)

If you can just get them to install the cards the process should be smooth.

Good luck with the appointment. Hope they actually get it working.
I'd still suggest filing the complaint with your city cable commission. They should know that BrightHouse was giving you a hard time. Unless you call the city and file a formal, written complaint every time you have a problem, the cable company is allowed to brag about 100% customer satisfaction. It's worth following-up even if you get your CableCard as expected.

If they show up tonight and all goes well I'll let it go, life is too short. If they don't show up or give me another hassle (ie have no cable cards) all hell will break loose.

final update, after Bright House called at noon and cancelled my appt I called Tivo to have them sort it out and also told Bright House to call Tivo. Well, at 3 they reconfirmed appt, showed up at 6 and cablecard install went smoothly. I guess my complaining worked ! If any other Orlando Bright House customers have problems tell them that I got one and they need to talk to a supervisor. I was their first install in Orlando so they sent 3 guys , 2 for training. Actually it was simple and they let me install them myself once they were there and all they did was call in the serial numbers of the cards

I live in DeLand and BHN installed my CableCARDS Saturday without issue. At first the installer was a little bit scared but I took charge and assisted.
When I called to request the cards I just said I need 2 cable cards.. they didn't ask what for.. I didn't tell them....
when the installer was there and talking with the office they didn't know if it would work.. I kept saying.. yep.. it will work just like a CableCARD TV. :)
glad all went well..

I also got my cards yesterday from Bright House (Manatee County). Also, no issues with the install. After installer got off the phone he said it would take about 15 minutes. The regular channels were ready immediately but the premiums did not work (channel recognized but gray pic) until after a little while. Not sure of exact time since I ran through the guided setup again and they were working once it was completed.
Only "issue" was having to explain to tech why "in the world would you go out and buy that THING." I was kind since the install was not completed.
FYI, It took me 2 VERY frustrating phone calls and a visit to the local office to get the install scheduled. Reps on the phone refused saying it wasn't supported. Visit to local office had no issues and was downright pleasant.

That's because humans are generally more polite when they can see each other. Once you came to the office you became a real person with real feelings.
It's the same difference with driving a car and walking down the street - you are usually very considerate of other people walking but get behind a car where you can't see the person driving, you do things you would never do on crowded sidewalk.
Good to see the cable companies are relenting as they are supposed to. Hopefully this will motivate them to get better software on their own DVRs.

Called Tampabay BH (Polk county) to schedule CC install. I told CSR up front that it was for a Tivo Series3 and I would need 2. She said that she had never heard of this device and put me on hold so she could ask her supervisor. When she cam back on she said, sorry the cable cards will NOT wok in this device. I was ready for this after reading dozens of similar threads and calmly and politely explained that it was an approved device by Cablelabs and that the Tampa office had successfully installed these CC's. Got put on hold again and when she came back she said her supervisor had called Hillsborough county BH office and, yes, they could set me up after all. Whew! I was polite and pleasant the whole time which made me feel good when it had a happy ending. Install scheduled for Monday!

This is why it pays to not be an early adopter :)
I'm sure every local office is going through this with their first installs. It can only get better I hope.

So what is BrightHouse charging you? When I called they said $3 per cablecard and $5 something PER CARD for digital service. Eventually they backed down and did a single $5 charge for digital service for both cards.
