I refused the shipment as I was told, but just to ease some fears:
1. They do require signature.
2. It ships in a brown box so no one would know it was a Tivo if it sat on your porch.

That's pretty much good news all around.

UPS required it or TiVo did? There is a distinction. Some delivery address locations, UPS will require a signature no matter what the sender requested.

And in some locations (or, more accurately, with some UPS drivers), UPS will drop the box without a signature even if the sender did request it. Our driver does that all the time. So annoying.

Who knows? He had a signature pad and I said I was denying it. I wasn't about to scrutinize who wanted the signature. :) The good news was that it was in a brown discreet box.

I talked to a Tivo CSR that didn't sound like he was BS'ing. He said that they don't ship with "signature required" on the order, but UPS and other shippers override that based on local policies at the destination location.

Had it shipped Fedex with no shipping required, they definitely will leave it. My carrier was "nice enough" to leave a package under my porch, but I mean, come on (this wasn't the Tivo; this was a prior package using Fedex). Signature should ALWAYS be required. I shouldn't be punished because I choose to work! :) Buy.com does this frequently.
