I just got a serries 2 and started using Tivo. I've searched the web for the answer to my only issue with Tivo but haven't found an answer. It has to do with fast forwarding through commercials. It has to do with the number of keystrokes.

I hit ff,ff, ff and if I time it right I hit ff again to stop it. If I get fooled and hit the fourth ff too soon then I have to do four more. Has someone suggested an option that would allow the ff to go to 60x on the first hit and then back to play on the next? Another option would be just have a 60x button and hit play to go back.

I've done the 30 second easter egg but that usually requires eight hits to get through the unwanted commercials.

It would be such a simple program change. Can the Tivo code be changed easily, such as a downloadable patch. I would love to trial this fix.

Thank you for any thoughts.

That sounds like a lot of work. I don't use the 30ss either, but just hit FF twice, then again when the show has just started, which backs up about 1-2 seconds which is just enough.

I had used the FF function to skip through commercials for several years until I learned about the 30 second skip. Now I never use the FF except to do the 15 minute steps though a show.

Remember, the networks are very consistent with commercial time blocks. Usually they are 3 minute blocks of time so I just press the 30 second skip 6 times. It may sound like a lot, but to fast forward through the commercials you would need to press FF at least three times and the play button once. So it is only two more times to press the 30 second skip on three minutes of commercials and it is more precise.

There is no simple 60 second skip that I know of, but you could check the TiVo Underground Forum.

Hi Jack,
Thanks for the reply. Just to be clear, I'm not looking for a 60 second skip button. It's my understanding that each hit of the ff button goes from 3 times normal speed or 3x to 18x to 60x and then back to play regular speed on the next hit of the button. I would like Tivo to have the fast forward be a toggle of 60x and play. This way when commercials come on I will hit the ff once to fast forward at 60x and one more time to go back to play. Either that or have a 60 button and then I could hit play to resume playing.

I use the FFF for tv shows. The 30 sec skip is fantastic for football games. Ball down.....30 sec skip....back at the line of scrimmage.

umm - just hit the FF 3 times and then move the finger to the play or 8 se skip back button. Hit that at the end and it will jump back a little bit to make up for reaction time.

My most used method is to hit FF twice and then go to 8 sec skip back button and hit it once or twice 9if not paying goo attention) to get to the point where the show starts again. Sometimes I do 3xFF if I know the show has long blaocks of commercials.

for football I just hit 1x FF between plays so I can read any stats they might put up.

So much work, so little time.

I like how you can hit FF once and then use that Right Arrow button to jump to different chapters. That's fast enough, isn't it?

You'll most likely learn the "feel" of the FF buttons pretty quick. My wife thought it was a pain and all, but within a couple weeks, she was zipping through commercials at 60x and was timing hitting the play button perfectly.

1 hint if you haven't already figured it out. Don't listen for the sound effects, just hit FF 3 times (or 2 until you get the swing of it) and get ready move to the play button.
