Twice in the past week, in the midst of playing back programs, I have gotten a black screen with the words "Poor Quality Signal" in green in the upper left corner. It lasts about 10 seconds, then the program resumes.
I haven't made any changes to my equipment in the past 4 months and have not seen that message ever before. I've had TiVo for 3 years.
Is the problem in the signal coming from Time Warner line that comes into the house?
Could it be a sign that the TiVo box is failing?

I imagine it could be due to the TiVo failing, but it could be the signal coming into your house as well. Have you tried connecting directly to the TV to see what it looks like then (does the signal look poor, etc)? It could be that your cable company has changed something that has affected the signal, or it could be that your lines coming in have degraded and need replaced.

I have gotten this message too but it actually looks like the message is coming from the cable box. At least, thats what the font looks like to me. I don't have Time Warner but I have Cablevision and they use the same types of boxes. I have only had this problem on analog channels but never the digital ones.

I posted this problem in the avsforum. They seem to know about it. Here is the info they gave me:

This is a message from the Sat Receiver at the Head End of your Cable provider. I live in Kansas and have seen the same message on A&E, SpikeTV, and TLC. Nothing wrong on your end. Nothing you can do to fix it.

What do you mean by "the Sat Receiver at the Head End of your Cable provider?"
it would be one of the receivers your cable company uses to receive the programming that they redistribute to you.

Who or what is putting the message into the feed?
The satellite receiver overlays the message, when its signal is weak, probably due to weather.
Thanks to all who replied!!

Just as an update, I have been getting this message today on Court TV. At the same moment, there is no indication on the other tuner of this happening.
I have no CATV signal comming into my house, just my DirecTivo. I doubt it could actually be a reception problem on my end because there was no weather to cause this. Also, it is clear that it is not the DTV receiver because it usually gives a message at the bottom of the screen ......."searching for signal on sat 1".
Must be a feed problem with Court TV at some point, maybe at the DTV uplink center.

Oddly enough, though I've never seen it before today, I was watching CNN Headline News in my hotel this evening and saw it.
