I needed to reinstall the original image I got when I purchased the HR10-250 TiVo. My only concern is this. How long does it take to reload the image onto the drive?

I used Hinsdale's instructions to do the task. This is what I did.

mkdir /mnt/dos
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos (the file is called HR10-250.bak)

mfsrestore -s 127 -bzpi /mnt/dos/HR10-250.bak /dev/hdb

8 hours later, it's still copying data. I don't even think it was half way done.

Just to let you know, I'm stuck on 107 out of 1486 and the HD light is steady. Just wondering. Could I have a bad hard drive? Not the TiVo HD. The HD I am using to store my image on.

Did you choose to preserve your recordings in the process or are you just trying to copy the OS image only?

No, (to preserve. This is an old image.) but I think I solved it though. I pulled up me XP boot disc to look at the partitions. There was none. Now I am running it again and it is faster.

Weird..

What does "Error fixing the volume list" mean?

Why, sometimes, these simple restore jobs turn out to be science projects?

A little footnote to you people out there.

Backing up and restoring images does not work very well when you have the hard drives attached to the same cable. It works much better when you put your new drive on the secondary cable and your DOS backup disk on the primary cable.

also the switches for mfsrestore are -xzpi the -b turns on byteswapping. I doubt it will work.

You are right. It didn't work. :p

It hangs up, particularly at 107. If it were to complete the restore function, I would get the error mentioned above.

It occurred to me that this was simply not going to work the way I had the drives set up. Switched things around a bit and everything is fine.

Now I need to do a "Clear and Delete Everything". The recorder says I have a hardware problem. Since the image came from another DVR, I got this message. It's my first. This must be what you mean when you fella's talk about RID stuff!
