I just received my new DT box today and it's under the 1 year prepaid special. It's set up under my name, however, I need to move it to my roomie's name/account so we can do MRV between the new one, and the other 5 we have in the house.

We called Customer Service, and they said I need to do it online. I"m not seeing an option to do so, however, I may be missing something.

Any suggestions?

Phone Customer Service again and have them talk you thru it?

I thought about that, but after holding for 30 minutes the first time around, I wasn't ready to attempt that tonight :)

The point may be moot since my roomie will moving in the next 3 months, and it will probably be easier to move the 3 boxes that I own to my own account at that time since they are month to month. I did find a blurb on Tivo's website saying that service can not be transferred to a new owner and that I may lose out on a refund on the prepaid service. It's no biggie as long as I can get both Tivo's in the same room :)

I'm trying to find the same information. I have some boxes on my personal account that belong to the office and I also bought one from a friend that is still on his account. I guess he is wondering why all the advertisers are sending him stuff I requested ;-) Anyway, the boxes all have lifetime service, but I don't see how you can move boxes between accounts.

I asked the customer service people today and they did not know how to do it either. They just suggested that I transfer the whole account, but that will not accomplish what I'm after, since each account has multiple boxes on it.

Now:
Account A has 3 - Series 1 TiVo Boxes w/ lifetime on them (1 is mine 2 are for work)
Account B has 2 - Series 1 TiVo boxes w/ lifetime on them (1 is mine and 1 is my friends)
Account C has 1 - Series 2 DT TiVo w/ annual on it and it belongs to work
Account D has 15+ Series 2 TiVos most w/ lifetime all of them belong to work

I want to move the boxes between account so the account properly reflects the true owners.

I called TiVo 5 years ago and yesterday and both time I was told they can not move them, the thing is I don't believe it, so surly someone out there has had this issue and can tell me how the resolved it.

Thanks!

My guess is that any CSR you talk to just gets overwhelmed with the number of Tivos involved and the work s/he'd have to do so s/he gets lazy. I'd get this done in steps rather than all at once to prevent the "it can't be done" response.

1. Your friend needs to have his changed from the B account to a new one account of his
own. That leavse account B as your account. ( you get your own account leaving B to your friend)
2. Transfer your S1 from the A account to your account (B).
3. Transfer the two S1's from the A account to the C (or D) account.
4. Add the 15 units on account D to account C. Moving C to D isn't possible because that's a bundle deal that can't be transfered so the 15 have to be moved to the bundle deal account. Unless some of the 15 are also bundle deals, then you may as well leave these accounts alone at least until they can all be on lifetime or regular monthly subscriptions.

account A - empty
account B - yours
account C - work
account D - empty (or work)
new account E - your friend

I just got a second S2 from my friend, and need to move it into my account. He moved this into his a year ago from his wife's (when they moved in together), so I know it can be done.

Any solution? He did it with a CSR, but it sounds like some of them don't know how.

The CSRs should be able to do it with no problem. The issue I had run into was the fact mine was a prepaid activation, and couldn't be transferred.

With the situation up above, I agree, I think the CSRs were either getting confused or didn't want to deal with as many moves as was necessary.

Quick question. Do the Tivo's need to reside at the same address for the MSD or just under the same account. Say I have an account which has a 2DT at my house and one at my parents. Would it get the MSD discount? Thanks

Officially, they need to be at the same location to qualify for MSD.

I've been told that the CSRs can only move boxes between accounts if the boxes have lifetime and that they cannot move boxes with prepaid service plans or any service commitment from one account to another, even if the owners involved live in the same physical location.

*open palm to forehead*

I didn't even think of that. Any Tivo that has a monthly subscription just needs to have the sub cancelled and the new owner can simply subscribe it himself. Tivo does offer prepay plans separate from the bundle plans that would be transferable to a new owner. Units sub'd with a subscription gift card would also be transferable.
