I almost bought a Toshiba TiVo because of the feature in which when you record programs to the DVD that they have the same TiVo interface and indexing on them--seemed really cool. What I want to know is, if you buy a third party DVD recorder and download TiVo programs onto it, do they show up with the same TiVo screen index, or was that something unique to the Toshiba integrated units?

The TiVo like menu is unique to the integrated TiVo and DVD burner units made by Pioneer, Toshiba and Humax. If you use TiVo To Go to download shows and then burn the shows to DVD on a PC, the DVD menu will not look TiVo-like. The DVD menus are a function of the software used to burn the disc. So, using a TiVo to burn a disc, you get a TiVo menu on your DVD. Other software will generate different DVD menus.
Hope that helps.

If you're talking about a stand-alone DVD recorder, you don't download anything to it.
You record on it from some type of source, either its own tuner, or from another device...like a TiVo (or a VCR).
Since it's the DVD recorder that's creating the disc, any menu on the disc would be in the style of the DVD recorder, whatever the manufacturer set up.
The DVD recorder has no idea it's recording off a TiVo, and likely no means to alter its menus based on what source it's recording from.
The reason TiVo style menus might be on discs created by the Toshiba you describe, is because it's an all-in-one unit, and IT'S A TIVO, so it having a TiVo theme to its menus makes sense.
A stand-alone DVD recorder, not being a TiVo, would create a different type of menu.
