so im trying to set my gf's tivo DT and its getting to be a real pain in the a$$.....the tivo cant get through guided setup because it cant connect to the tivo service.

when i try to do it with the ethernet it doesent work for god knows what reason...and i cant do it through the phone because im in a dorm and i can only dial calls from the dorm that are in the same area code and since the tivo needs to call an 800 number therefore it doesent work...

my question is can i have the tivo call a different number during the guided setup so that i can get this darn thing working???

im thinking that that isnt an option but i figured id take a shot.....

Nope. It calls a fixed 800 number for the first call, to get local dial-in numbers.

You can try to proxy through a PC.

Acutally, if you use our local PoP finder (http://customersupport.tivo.com/knowbase/root/public/tv020903.htm?), you can manually enter the local number as a dial prefix.
For example: 2125551234,,

The commas are the extremely important part as they add a two second pause before dialing the 800 number. This allows for the call to connect before more dialing happens.

As for the network connection not working, it is likely that certain ports have been blocked by IT. See our online article (http://customersupport.tivo.com/knowbase/root/public/tv2073.htm?) for this issue.

Take a few minutes to search the online support articles. They have a lot of useful information in them.

thanks for the advice...i called tivo right after i posted beforeand the woman gave me some ports to have opened up but she told me if that doeent work its because tivo doesent support T1 or T3 lines which sucks.....

anyway i looked for a local access number but nothing for mahwah, nj came up which is the only place that the dorms can call, i officially hate my girlfriends college

how would i go about proxying through my computer....sorry but im not very familiar with all of that.
